Schools of interest: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, Cornell (Applied Econ/ Management), USC, Georgetown

UCB: High Match due to high GPA
UCLA: Same
UCSD: Match
UCD: Safety/Low Match
Cornell (Applied Econ/ Management): Reach (especially AEM)
USC: High Match (Low ACT score...)
Georgetown: Reach

Strengthen EC's and scores :)

UCB/UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe match
Cornell: Reach
USC: Match

i agree with everyone else, maybe you'd be better off applying to a different program in cornell and tryign to switch into AEM because, Next to wharton, AEM is pretty much the second toughest undergrad b program to get into

thanks, any more thoughts?

would ILR be easier than AEM

note: I know AEM would prob be a reach, but it would be hard to see me leaving California for anything less than that (especially w/ 34k tuition)

Berkeley: high match
UCLA: high match - match
UCSD: safe match
UCD: safety
Cornell: slight reach
USC: match

Anyone else?

UCB: match
UCLA: match
UCSD: high match
UCD: Safety
Cornell: reach
USC: Match
Georgetown: Match / slight reach

Muchas gracias amigos...should I add in a reach (like Dartmouth/Stanford (yeah right)) or a safety (like SDSU) or is my list okay (aka balanced)...?

Your list is well balanced, but you can add a reach or two if you'd like. Matches and safeties are "mandatory"; reaches are optional. Since you have the former, you can try for the latter.

cosign with kyle.

How about UChicago and Dartmouth as other reaches?

My final list (any other thoughts appreciated)

Reaches: UChicago, Cornell, Georgetown
Matches/slight reaches: UCB, UCLA, USC
Safe match: UCSD
Safety: UCD

...I'm pretty comfortable with this, you?

Seems like a pretty good list. Not sure Georgetown would be a reach for you, though.

I am just replying to the person that said that UCSD was a strong match. It is actually really hard. Last year one of my friends graduated in the top 10 percent of our high school with an overall gpa of 4.25 and had 2020 SATS, and she did not get in. I hope that you do get in, but it might be a stretch to say that it is a strong safety, because UC's are unpredictable.

jarabamc,

Since UCSD uses a hard point system, it's generally pretty easy to predict who's a good match. I stand by my original opinion: safe match. The OP would be very unlikely to NOT get into UCSD with those stats, considering the stats of the average admit.

That is one case; this doesn't happen to the majority with those stats. Plus, you don't know exactly why she was rejected -- there might've been some big flaw (like she blew off her essays and such). I agree with UCLAri -- I'd be surprised if the OP didn't get into UCSD.

Where would a school like JHU fall?
Somewhere between slight reach and reach?

JHU admission is on par with Chicago, Cornell; not so sure about Georgetown. Def not slight reach.

You rock for applying to state schools!! We need more qualified folks in our public universities!!
