I got accepted into Cornell, Geneseo, Binghamton, St. Michaels, University of Vermont, and Le Moyne. I've narrowed it down to Geneseo and Binghamton. I was wondering what reputation each of these two colleges hold in the north east and also in the united states. I'm interested in being a double major of Biology and History and eventually going on to either Grad school, Medical school, or Law school i just have no idea what I want to do yet. The reasoning behind choosing either Geneseo or Binghamton and not going to an ivy league school such as Cornell is because i want to balance a good school academically with a fun school with a decent party scene and social atmosphere. I wanted to be a big fish in a small pond instead of the contrary which i would be at Cornell. What are the reputations for Geneseo and Binghamton for going on to grad school or med/law school and would choosing a SUNY college at all hurt my chances even if i'm getting good grades? Also what are the big differences between Geneseo and Binghamton?

I can’t offer any input on Geneseo vs. Binghamton in terms of academics, but I will say that Geneseo’s setting and social atmosphere are a lot better than anything at Binghamton.

I also wanted to give my two cents on the balance between a good school and a good social life–Cornell definitely has an active party scene and the sheer amount & diversity of students there means that there is balance between the academic and social sides of things.

I’m confused. It’s October. Too soon for acceptances to Cornell and SUNY.

How can you already be in at Cornell?
What is your net cost (ie., cost of attendance minus any grant&scholarship you got, but NOT minus loans) for EACH?
Please list.
However, I’d say Geneseo is the better choice - better environment, better teaching, greater certainty of graduation.

As brantly said, it is too early for you to have these acceptances so you’re trolling. Not a problem. Students at Ivy League schools tend to be apt at balancing fun and academics. Since you’re trolling, I assume you know that but your motivation is not to hear about that from others. Can’t figure out what you are delighting in eliciting from others. You’ve listed 2 small local Catholic colleges, 3 large state school and an Ivy with state support. Cornell will have the strongest students by a good margin. Taking it out of the mix, I agree with those who view Geneseo as stronger than Binghamton-at least in terms of the academic environment and the campus. Grade inflation from places like Binghamton can help students to gain entry to professional schools even after not working very hard in college. So ■■■■■, is that satisfying for you?
