Tornado in Downtown Atlanta

I heard a tornado just affected Atlanta...was it near Tech? Anyway...I know Atlanta is a pretty big city, but I hope everyone is safe!

Actually it was very near Tech, but probably didn't do too much damage there. The Dome/Omni/CNN are on the same side of I-85 as Tech but maybe a mile or less south of the campus. Tech's spring break starts today so many people probably left campus already. If you need a reference, go to Georgia Institute of Technology :: Campus Map and look at the campus map. Drag south a little and you'll see the Dome.

Ah....I see...CNN.com has a Live feed on it...It's actually pretty odd how they are covering it because it like a continuous live stream with no real "reporting."

There was a big high school track meet at Tech last night and they finished everything except the Coaches relay. The SEC tournament is moving to Tech for the rest of their games.

I heard the top of the Dome got very damage or blew off.
And yea GA Tech is really close to the Dome.

It actually wasn't that bad around the Georgia Tech area. But the tornado was just about 7 to 10 blocks south. I was in my dormitory when it happened, and didn't know it happened until my roommate called me.

The Centennial Olympic Park area is about 1/2 mile south of the North Avenue apartments which are at the SE edge of GT's campus. My son and his girlfriend, who live there, took off from the Atlanta airport less than an hour before the tornado hit and were in the air at the time. When they landed, they had text messages from the school telling them of a tornado warning. A call back to a roommate stll at the apartment confirmed no damage on campus, but it was very close.
