Towers

Class of 2012... who applied for the Towers

My daughter did! She is hoping to get it for summer also (she knows that she got it for Fall).

I thought that you have to wait until March 1st to state dorm preferences. Is there another way?

When you sign an agreement for Fall housing you can opt for either an academic contract (Libra, Apollo, Nike, Hercules, Lake Claire)
OR
an annual contract (The Towers). We did an annual contract and thus, she definitely will get the Towers. On March 1st she can request which Tower she prefers (she gets to put them in order of preference).
For summer, we will put in our preferences March 1 but there is no guarantee which of the available residence halls she will be placed in.

Thanks seiclan. We also did the annual contract, so we'll wait until March 1.

Good thing we applied early. Kids who want to live in Towers and haven't applied yet are now referred to a waiting list!

My daughter has also been confirmed in the Towers. She's planning to live in Tower 3 (honors housing).

If we're attending UCF in the honors program, is the registration separate from the other UCF students? I know I got a "statement of interest" form for the towers with my acceptance and the honors students have their own tower. If I decide to attend, I definitely don't want to be on a waitlist!

Honors Orientation is completely separate. It is June 2-3rd (I think) and you have to sign up online. Did you register for on campus housing yet? If not, go online now and do this. You should be able to get into Tower 3 (Honors Housing).

If I remember correctly, DVM, my S registered for housing on-line as soon as he was able after admittance. He was asked to join Burnett, and he sent his essay off to them right away. Admittance came quickly ... and at that time they asked for a payment for the congress fee (the social aspect of burnett). And he signed the form they sent him for honors housing. I remember when it got time to do the specifics on-line ... there was a glitch, and it would't allow him to pick some specific things. I emailed the housing dept. and they told me that honors housing was processed separately so he didn't need to worry. If he got his honors housing form to honors as soon as it was sent to him, there would be no problem. They were correct. No problem. He and all his roommates have "re-upped" for the Towers next year. As he says, "you can't beat rolling out of bed and being at class without having to deal with any parking hassle." Oh, and yes ... Sieclan is correct. There is a separate orientation for honors. One of the things my S did was he figured out ahead of time (he and I sat down together with a catalogue), what he wanted. While others were sitting there at their computers, figuring out what worked with their major and talking to the advisors, he was already plugging in the classes he wanted. He got his perfect schedule ... classes and times he wanted because he was so quick about it. After he sheduled during orientation, he found out he'd put in one class incorrectly. He had no trouble going back into the system and switching that class out. Also, remember they only open up so many classes for each orientation section. So ... get the classes in you want, and if they aren't the perfect times or days ... remember you can go back in and switch. Just watch when the orientation days are and figure on them opening up other sections at the same time (approx.) they did for your orientation. Eventually, you can get what you want or need. He also had very good luck with the honors advisors when there weren't enough EnglishH sections open for this spring. After several kids weren't able to get into a class, they opened up additional sections for them. Burnett really does bend over backwards to help you do well. My S was even offered the chance to intereview for a part-time job with his H Economics professor. He chose a different free-lance job that he'd already been pursuring, but still ... the chance for that opportunity as a first semester freshman, way cool for him. :)

DVM-Did you fill out the honors application yet??? If not, that should be your first priority. You will of course get in but you do have to fill out the separate application and essay.

DVM - Honors students were instructed to apply for housing & specify the Towers annual contract. This was separate from sending back in the form to Burnett stating your intention to live in honors housing. Honors students had to "get in line" with everyone else to secure their priority date/number. Hope this makes sense - in other words, being accepted to Burnett does not guarantee you a spot in Tower 3.

Ok. I'm not 100% sure yet if I'm going to attend Burnett, but I should still go and apply for housing on myUCF?

I think there's a waiting list for Towers at this point, but apply anyway. Keep your options open.

I think most of the kids who have done the Honors housing in the Towers this year are really happy with it. Most of my son's friends are staying put...

I guess those living in Towers who re-upped got their room assignments today. S and two of his roommates decided to stay (4th not doing so hot grade wise; might not be in school next year), but they moved out of Honors Housing into Tower 4 so that a friend of theirs (who's not in H) could be their 4th roommate. Glad that's done. But man ... gonna have to lug that stuff out of there for the one month. Bet my H won't carry the fridge up the stairs again. :)
