Summer B housing

Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge of which dorms are the most social for summer B housing (for a new Freshman)? My daughter wants to be in the apartment style (either academic village or Towers) for summer B but wants to meet lots of other new Freshman. We had heard that there will be very few Freshman in Towers for summer B this summer because the annual contracts from last year are still in effect (most summer b Towers residents will thus have already finished their Freshman year or higher). Any thoughts? She has until May 1 to change her housing preferences online.

Well, its May 1. DD put down for a single in a Nike/Hercules apartment as her first choice and Towers as her second choice for summer B. The website says that the room and roommate assignments will be posted on myUCF in early May, so now we wait.

Summer Session B Room and Roommate Information
Room and roommate information for summer session B will be available in myUCF by Friday, May 16, 2008, if you completed an online summer agreement by May 2, 2008.

My D's assignment was posted on Thursday, May 8th. She will be in Towers I. She is very excited. Now we just need to wait on the Fall housing assignment. She is on the waitlist for Honors housing.

Wow, florida mom, she already found out???? Did she request Towers as her first choice for summer?? I just check my daughter's myUCF and it still says that the assignment will be posted in early May! She is anxiously waiting since her BFF who is starting UF this summer got her assignment last week. Hope all is ok with my daughter's summer housing. Did anyone else get their summer assignment?

Seiclan,

Yes, she had listed Towers as her first choice for summer. She did not think she would get it. She had requested to room with her BFF, and they were assigned together. They also have another roommate whom they don't know, but happens to live in a neighborhood not far from us. They've already contacted the other girl and are planning to meet up soon.

Good luck to your daughter. I wish her the best with her housing.

Florida mom

Still no roommate assignment but we now know that she got a single in a 4/2 apartment in Nike/Hercules because there is a bill for 978$ on her myUCF account.

Her housing assignment is up BUT there was no roommate information yet. Hoping that was a mistake because I know that she would not want to be alone in an apartment!!!! Probably they are still working on assignments.

She is going to be in Nike. Wohoo!!!

Academic Village and Libra tend to be the most social communities. The Towers isn't as social, because of the fact that many of its residents are initially freshmen and the lease is year-round, unlike other areas of campus. Also it houses the athletes who don't have time to socialized as much.

I would also suggest dormstyle versus apartment for a freshmen. Apartments can be more isolating, since they have their own rooms.
