Townhouse or apartment?

So...I'm looking for a place to live next year. Basically all my friends live in Foxridge, so I kinda want to stay in the area unless it's significantly cheaper. Right now, I pay $350/month for rent & utilities, so I'm looking to not go over that.

Does anyone know if it would be cheaper to get a townhouse or just stay in an apartment? The place I was looking at was Oak Manor, but I don't know how much utilities would cost in comparison to an apartment. Overall, I see rent is a bit cheaper, but not by much.

Also, does anyone know if there are any places that have rent less than $320/month (that are still relatively nice/clean)? There are gonna either be 3 or 4 total living together, depending on which is cheaper.

Thanks for the help!

You can find townhouses in that price range, although you’re probably not going to find much that is right next to campus. Here are a couple I found on Craigslist, which is actually a really good place to go apartment/townhouse hunting. I have no idea if they’re any good or not, but they may be a good place to start looking.

[Ramble Ridge Townhouse](http://blacksburg.craigslist.org/apa/2221153958.html)

[Clover Valley](http://blacksburg.craigslist.org/apa/2221114729.html)

Keep an eye on Craigslist and you’ll see different stuff pop up each week.

As far as townhome versus apartment, it really can go either way. I don’t suggest living in the major apartment complexes if you can help it; they tend to be overpriced for what you get and not as nice as some of the single units.

I’d say townhouse over apt if you can afford it. The townhouses I’ve been to have been consistently nicer than apartments.

Ramble Ridge is probably the best set of townhouses I’ve been to at VT
