this might be a dumb question but i was wondering how does it look if im going for a bach. in one school and in the middle of pursuing the degree (2 years), i just stop and want to transfer to another school.

would this affect any type of admission chances? how do colleges look at this?

What do you mean by “in the middle of pursuing the degree… I just stop?”

Do you mean withdraw from current classes before completing them? What grades would be put on your transcript in that case?

We would have to know what your grades are/would be; the reason you would “just stop” and the type of school(s) where you’d want to transfer. Before we could offer any comment.

i mean that ill be done with 2 years completely (maybe 24+ credits).
If i kept a 3.0+ GPA throughout those 2 years.

I would stop because I want to re-apply to my dream college, since my freshman app wasnt good enough, the transfer college would maybe see i can handle the work?

I think you’re confused by how the transfer program works. If you’re a freshman or sophomore (2 years done), then most colleges will allow you to apply to one of their schools as a transfer applicant. Some schools will actually allow you to transfer during your junior (third year) or senior year (fourth/last year). There’s no such thing as “stopping” a bachelor’s degree. You can even change your major when applying for a transfer but that will affect your chances since you might not have completed the required courses for that major.

Okay, I still don’t know what you mean by “stop.”

Students transfer all of the time after two years, or after one year. Performing better in college than you did in high school can enhance your chances. However, it’s not usually smart to be fixated on one “dream” college. Some are admitted as transfers when they were unsuccessful as freshman admits; many are not successful the second time either.

So, if you want to transfer or are at a jc/cc and will need to transfer, make sure you have several colleges to apply to… safe, match and reach.

If you have not read the Transfer Admissions 101 sticky thread on this forum, it might answer some of your questions.

And I am a little confused by the number of credits you are expecting after 2 full years. Different schools calculate credits differently - most commonly, at schools that use “credit hours” a student would have somewhere between 50-60 credit hours after two full years. Some schools use “units” (1 unit per course taken) and for them, something like 20 would be a fairly high number of units to have after two years.

Thats the answer to what i was asking. I thought not finishing a four year degree would somehow affect any chance to transfer. thats why i said stop, i didnt know that was a common thing.

that was an example, unless i misread something there are cc’s that give full credit (up to 20+) after completing certain courses

thanks i pretty much had my question answered
