Is anyone here familiar with transfer admissions for Tulane?

DS is currently a sophomore and is looking to transfer schools. The biggest thing holding him back right now (mainly for selective schools) is his “low” gpa (3.2) from NYU.

I’ve been helping my son put together a short list of reach schools together and would like to see if he even has a marginal chance of getting in given his gpa. Anyone know the gpa range of accepted students at this institution? No hooks, unless being a URM counts as one.

Also, how much weight is given to SAT scores for junior transfer students?

I was always under the impression that for junior transfers SAT scores are not very relevant. After all, they are supposed to be a predictor of how well you are likely to do in college, and you have already shown you are capable of college level work at a school very academically comparable to Tulane. I surely don’t know what the average GPA is at NYU but 3.2, while not outstanding, doesn’t strike me as dismal either.

But to answer your main question, I don’t think anyone knows the average GPA of transfer students. Tulane only says that they require a minimum GPA of 2.50, but I am sure the average is much higher than that. Getting accepted depends a lot on how many spaces they have open. Like a lot of schools, it is harder to get in as a transfer than as a freshman. In 2011-2012, 2500 people applied to get in as transfer students and only 349 were accepted, well below the 26% or so acceptance rate for freshmen. 115 eventually enrolled that year. They also say that test scores are recommended but not required, another indication that they are weighted much less than with freshman admissions.
