I am a comp sci major, and was going to apply to GA Tech, UIUC, UT Austin, and Texas A&M with 44 hours and a 3.71(now a 3.51) I know this is an extremely low GPA, and I had a couple of questions. My University has a policy where if I retake a class then the higher grade will replace my D, and the D will become a W(I think, maybe just remain without factoring into my GPA). With this being said, if I submit my transfer application after I retake the class, my GPA will go up to a 3.8. Can I apply to these colleges then, or do I have to follow most of their policies(When you transfer, from what I know of GA Tech, and UIUC, they will consider the higher grade you made and factor it into your GPA, but this will NOT replace your D or F). Could someone please tell me if I have lost a shot at these schools, or am I still in the clear if I retake the class? Thanks!

Your GPA does not follow you. The courses you take transfer over but the grade attached to them does not. Any school you apply to will see on your transcript all grades you have received. However, you still have a good GPA without retaking the course.
