Transfer after just one year of CC?

Okay well, I just graduated High school last year and didn’t get into any college I wanted to attend. I also learned about the college debt bubble and realized that I’d rather not go into debt for a state school anyway.

Okay so, I took and passed 7 ap exams in HS
AP European History - 3
APUSH - 4
AP Calculus AB - 5
AP Statistics - 4
AP Biology - 3
AP MACROeconomics - 4
AP Psychology - 4

Major: Business administration - finance management

Okay then I took two summer classes at my CC coming out of High school, got A’s in both – American Government and MICROeconomics.

So i’m here applying witha 4.0, but it only reflects two ACTUAL college classes…
I technically have 32.7 units (IGETC) completed at my CC cause of all the AP and two classes.

I work 7 days a week - 55 hours a week across two jobs
I am taking 17 semester units currently and 15 next semester

I will have IGETC completed in the spring and also my major requirements. (accountings, business law, calcs, etc etc)

Do I have any shot in hell at getting in? I’m also applying to UCLA and maybe some other UCs but my situation is so weird and Idk… Thank you for reading this, and if you reply that would be great.

The moment you enter a community college, you have to meet the requirement of 60 semester units (For most colleges) to transfer.

Since you are applying to both CSU and UC, and you now have a few semesters to go, make sure you complete the other few GE requirements for the CSU system such as speech and American government.

Unless there’s some rule that will allow you to transfer with under 60 units, you won’t be getting into any UC or CSU this time around.

Keep up the hard work though - I also worked a full-time job and took a 17 unit load while in CC, and pulled a 4.0. That kind of work ethic will go a long way to getting you into your top choice university.

Bruh, did you read the whole thing? I took American Gov over the summer, I already have 32.7 units COMPLETED, I am taking 17 now, and will finish in the spring (15). I will have over 60 units by the end of spring… I entered CC essentially as a sophomore if you look at 30-60 units as being a sophomore. I am in speech now, and of course will have IGETC done by spring… (As well as major reqs)

I suggest you post on the UC transfer discussion for more information. @Cayton is really knowledgable about transfers to UCLA.

SLO is even more selective for transfers than they are freshmen.

In theory, they don’t care about how much time (calendar) you’ve spent at a CC, you must have the correct 60 units and then compete on GPA. So, with a 4.0, 60 units and all the right classes, you should be in good shape.

That said, I bet they both (UCLA and SLO) decline you because you have an unusual situation. Call admissions and ask how they evaluate an applicant like you.

Good luck.

I don’t see any unusual situation. Be sure to look at requirements for transferring to CSU (IGETC is for UC). From posts #1 & #2 it looks like you have that covered. Do all the paperwork- apply for TAG (not for UCLA or UCB, but for the other UCs). Also apply for graduation- associates degree if you want to receive one. I think you said on another thread that you did meet with the transfer center people. I see now this post is a week old. I guess you are in good shape now? Best of luck!

IGETC certification works for both CSU and UC to satisfy lower-div GE requirements.
You need to see your CCC counselor to file for certification (transcript notation). With the certification, the individual will not be required to take any lower-div GE after transferring and the remaining GE is an upper-div C4 course. I was IGETC certified and transferred to CP and needn’t to take any lower-div GE .

You’ll need at least 60 units completed by the end of Spring 2015 if you’re applying now. That’ll be tough since you only have about 33 units right now. Still, if you can meet that requirement, then apply. It’s worth a shot, and you have good grades. Good luck.

Yes IGETC, 64 units, and pre major reqs will be completed by the end of spring 2015. Missed the opportunity for TAG, sadly, that window closed Sept 31. @ItsJustSchool‌ — i keep going back, everything is good, I just need to finish up the apps. thank you for reassuring that it is not “unusual”. Yeah if I don’t get in, then Idk what I’m going to do for a whole 'nother year… maybe work 70 hours/wk and then apply again but with everything completed rather than in progress. That’s a scary thought to take an essential year off of school…
