Transferring after just ONE year of CC?Give this thread a chance :)

Okay well, I just graduated High school last year and didn't get into any college I wanted to attend. I also learned about the college debt bubble and realized that I'd rather not go into debt for a state school anyway.

Okay so, I took and passed 7 ap exams in HS
AP European History - 3
APUSH - 4
AP Calculus AB - 5
AP Statistics - 4
AP Biology - 3
AP MACROeconomics - 4
AP Psychology - 4

Major: Business Economics (pre)

Okay then I took two summer classes at my CC coming out of High school, got A's in both -- American Government and MICROeconomics.

So i'm here applying witha 4.0, but it only reflects two ACTUAL college classes...
I technically have 32.7 units (IGETC) completed at my CC cause of all the AP and two classes.

I work 7 days a week - 55 hours a week across two jobs
I am taking 17 semester units currently and 15 next semester

I will have IGETC completed in the spring and also my major requirements. (accountings, business law, calcs, etc etc)

Do I have any shot in hell at getting in? I'm also applying to SLO and maybe some other UCs but my situation is so weird and Idk... Thank you for reading this, and if you reply that would be great.

how are you taking 17 credits and working 55 hoursa week? Thats intense

Hahaha it really is a grind, but everything is temporary. @cam601

Mon - Fri --> work 7:30am -3:00pm as a technical assistant (office job)

SCHOOL --> Mon/tues/thurs --> 4:00pm - 7:00pm / 4:00-10:00pm / 4:00 - 9:00pm [Respectively]

(Fri - Sun) Domino’s Pizza–
Friday 4pm - 10pm --> deliver pizzas (domino’s)
Saturday 5pm - 2am deliver pizzas (domino’s)
Sunday 5pm - 10pm deliver pizzas (domino’s)

I do Accounting online Friday night and saturday day. Sunday I work on any other homework
Monday/Wednesday I do homework

I too go to a CC, and I am taking 15 credits right now, and I have 19 lined up for next semester. My current semester is not ideal for me to stay at my CC for another year, so I am looking to transfer out after this year. Glad to know that that I am not the only one looking to do this :)

From a UC standpoint, your AP scores give you 40 quarter units, or 26.7 semester units, according to <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; . You need to add enough college units to reach 90 quarter units or 60 semester units total to be eligible for junior transfer to a UC (i.e. take 50 quarter units or 34 semester units of college courses).

CSU would be a bit more generous, giving you 30 semester units or 45 quarter units, according to http://www.calstate.edu/transfer/requirements/AdvancedPlacementAPCourses.shtml</a> . You still need to take enough courses to reach 90 quarter units or 60 semester units to be eligible for junior transfer to a CSU (only a few CSUs admit lower division transfers with fewer units).

Of course, you need to fulfill the pre-major requirements for your major at your target UCs and CSUs, and cover each campus’ breadth, or IGETC if accepted. Verify at http://www.assist.org .

Hey there, I already did the research on that. I took two summer classes as well. 3 units ea, as I said. So 32.7 units is what I have. I know all about the pre Reqs and Am on track to finish those in the spring like I said. My question was how will that look? Applying with a 4.0 only reflecting two classes and just the entire situation.?

Planning to do the same as you guys :slight_smile: Any idea what to put for your admission letters? Any EC’s? And maybe a letter of rec? Those are the other factors I haven’t planned for anyone have any ideas?

I’m planning to be a Pre-Med so Bio Major, anyone in the same boat as me? [-O<

Great thread, im going to follow you guys all the way there! :D

If you guys don’t know there were some past threads about one year transfers, one thread in particular posted their whole process and results and it was really inspirational.
Here it is if you haven’t seen it yet:

p.s. just a hs senior right now planning my one year transfer, with hopefully 20-35 credits once I enter fall 2015.

Well i’m going to say I work every day of the week, for 55 hours a week haha. That’s my “kicker” lmao.18yo full time school and more than full time work should be somewhat competitive hahah. GRIND
