Transfer after poor experience in high school

I am currently a senior in high school. I am going to be attending the UW as a non-matriculated student this summer and will then attend Seattle Central Community College until I can transfer into the UW. My worry is that I did abysmally in high school. I got several F's on my transcript this year and didn't do much in the years prior. I think it will kill me no matter what I get at SCCC. Do they look much at high school grades? How can I maximize my chances? I want to get in ASAP and plan to apply every quarter to make sure that I graduate with the most experience possible. If it is of any consequence, I want to go into Computer Science and Japanese.

if you apply as junior, it doesn’t really matter. however, if you apply as sophomore, it does matter.

I agree with laypk. If you get good grades in college and don’t transfer until your junior year, you should be fine. Once you have over 90 credits, they don’t pay much attention to high school stuff.

I got really bad GPA from high school like yours in Japan

I got almost perfect GPA from a college in Japan (totally different major I’m intended to go now)

I got 3.4ish GPA from community colleges in WA

Trying to get in to CS/CE
(I’m American, but spent most of my life in Japan)

I found my transcript uploaded today
I think they weigh more on your college GPA when you transfer after two years of college. If you show them your improvement in academic, it’ll be your plus!
Also, be unique. I think I got in with my kind of low GPA (3.4) because of my uniqueness (I have really unique cultural background and have good own thoughts about it). Let them be interested in you on your essay. :)

I was accepted for summer quarter as a junior. I did terrible in high school…I mean, TERRIBLE! As long as you show considerable improvement in college like I did, you will have a good chance of getting in.

i had a 2.x in hs…until I decided to drop out and get my ged…

many years later i went to Seattle Central…got an AA with a 3.92 GPA and transferred to UW as a junior no problem :)

i had a 2.5 gpa in high school. i went straight to sccc, and completed my aa with a 3.78 in two years. my unofficial transcript has loaded, so i think i got in.

as long as you are dedicated to get good grades in cc (which really isn’t hard at sccc) and don’t take forever to earn the aa you’ll definitely have a higher chance of getting in.

I didn’t finish high school and ended up getting an Adult Diploma from my CC.

If you finish 90 credits, and show you’ve improved, finish your GER then I don’t think they consider it heavily.
