For Winter 2006 admission we will consider classes taken during the fall. At some point during the fall, probably around October, we will request your summer grades, if any, and work in progress for fall. We will then project your completed units through December.

As for IGETC, it isn't required for admission, but if you complete it we will credit you with the required general education pattern for graduation. One thing about IGETC: before leaving you community college ask your counselor to certify your IGETC. It doesn't happen automatically. When your final transcript arrives we'll see "IGETC CERTIFIED" on it and that will satisfy the GE pattern. As for the course pattern, we like to see the two English composition and the required math course complete before the final semester.

For our campus we don't expect the later application deadline to affect our notification date. Other campuses have complained that the delayed deadline will put them off their schedule, but we don't expect that to happen here. You could start an application for fall '06 if you wanted and then wait until you heard from UCSB before submitting the final app.

We evaluate applications on a rolling basis so the earlier you submit your application the sooner you will here from us. However, at this point there is no guarantee that you will be notified about your admission status until the end of the filling period for fall 2006. If you don't find out your admissions status prior to the closing date for fall 2006 application period, you may apply again for fall 2006. But keep in mind though that you will be responsible for the cost of filling both applications.

Also, winter application is generally more competitive since UCSB has fewer spaces to offer to our prospective students. We were told the admission GPA for winter would probably start at 3.2 but might come down to a 3.0. Completing the second English composition course during the fall could be a problem. We first admit all the applicants who have already completed the three course pattern (2 English comp and 1 math). Then we look at the students who are still completing the pattern.

Transfer applicants are admitted "on the numbers," meaning you units, GPA, and course pattern. Your volunteer work and your student statement will not be weighted in the admission decision. The student statement provides additional information, such as deficienies, but it is not an integral part of the decision like it is for freshman applications.
