Transfer chances BC

Transferring after my sophomore year

-Weak high school record 3.5 gpa, 27 ACT’s
-Was involved in swimming 3 years, and some cross country
some small general involvements choir/drama, i was in a musical but otherwise not extraordinary
-had an alcohol charge as minor position ~which i explained very well

\However

-Have spent 4 years of my life in Austria, Fluent bilingual
-Tested or Clept out of 20 credits of German 10 which count towards a minor.
-Attended University of Northern Iowa as Biochem, Biomed major.
-Currently maintain a 4.0 gpa at the university.
-Couldn’t get the references I wanted due to time constraint, one will be amazing!!, the other one should be good as well but not as personally excited.
-involved in hall senate
-involved in 2 church groups
-involved in Immunohistochemistry Lab research

-mid term grade report
A- Organic chem 1: made a note excellent student, will easily attain A
A- Oral Comm: noted that I have had the highest grade on each exam so far
A Humanities
A German IV
A Anatomy and Physiology II -noted i was number 6 in my class out of 148 students.

other concerns:
I have taken a full load each semester, however first semester freshmen year I thought I was to good for a intro required math class and got a B+. As a semi punishment to myself I forced myself to actually take it again getting as much as I could out of it I retook the course. Not sure what they’ll think of that. I am concerned they will see that as a weakness.

Also last semester took :
Organic 1, Genetics, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology I

Recieved an A in every class, however I had a sickness which took me out of school for a couple weeks in the last quarter of the semester. I still managed to ace all classes except organic chem in which I took an incomplete but had an A- in the class. I was still completing it at time application, but it was a hell of a load and i still did well considering all I had to make up.

How is that looking? ~do those last two things hurt me, considering I did explain it to them very clearly.
Thanks

To add to that question, I mentioned this in the BU thread but, are there any strong distinctions I should see between BU and BC other than BC being a bit higher on the rep list, as well as a Jesuit, D1 sport school?

Does housing ect. differ.

BU and BC are VERY different schools. BC is more of a traditional "college" feel with nice suburban campus - gothic and gated. ~90% of the student body lives on campus. BU, on the other hand, hardly has a campus...and I assume many students live in apartments and other non-campus types of housing. BU is an urban school, BC is suburban.

unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to visit either school yet. I have heard rumored that BU has a stronger academic program though,.. however I'm not sure if this is bias or fact

Overall, BU has better graduate programs. For an undergraduate education that is respective nationally, BC is your better bet.

Actually, BU has about 75% of students living in university housing.

Also, I don't really understand why people claim BU has no campus. I really like BU's campus, and I'm saying that as a student at a school with a more traditional campus (University of Illinois Urbana Champaign).

And to the thread's creator: I wouldn't worry about it. We only have to wait, what, two weeks more tops?

yeah, i just have some pressing issues regarding tickets, traveling to europe this summer... financial aid ect.

and i'm trying to get a grasp for how much.. of a reality this might actually be so i can leverage accordingly

What do you intend to major in? If it's in the sciences, as your midterm report suggests, BU is a research university and so you will have a ton more opportunities as well as choices in majors. It really depends on what you are looking to get from a university.

BU has very strong engineering programs (whereas BC has no engineering college), their Biomedical engineering is rising up the ranks, currently at 8th in undergrad, and 6th in graduate (MIT is 6th in undergrad and 8th in grad), so you get the idea of where it stands.

Humanities or theology may be the strong point of BC, so all-in-all, it comes down to what you're interested in majoring in.

for anyone interested I got accepted but waitlist status, called them and they said it's because i was trying to trans in as a junior..and they don't like to take pre-meds who have already done a lot of courses.

so trick is apply during your freshman year

Dear pawne4 : What does "accepted but waitlist status" mean? Waitlist means you ARE NOT in, accepted means you ARE in. Can only be one or the other.

I think that wait list is acceptance, not admittance mind you but it's making the cut stats wise, it's just a matter of where you lie on it, and how they decide to fill the spots in their student body. (guess that's how i looked at it)

I just was attempting to leave a point of reference for others chancing themselves, as well as allude to the importance of applying your freshman year if you want to go into pre-med, having been specifically told by a transfer counselor that it was The reason why I only received a wait list offer (had taken 63 credits +15 clep credits + tested out of 5 graded credits). the criteria demands you take at least half of your pre-med's at BC.
