Transfer Chances

Hey everyone, I go to the University of Florida where I will end up with at least a 3.91, I will prob bring it up to 4.0 after the first semester. I am taking 16 credits this semester and 17 next semester. My high school was bad, 3.4 uw, 13 or 14 AP and IB courses, 4.3 weighted. 1330 SAT. Applying as sophomore.

I do 2 hours of community service a week and am in a few clubs. I am a Russian major and am looking closely at:
Chicago
USC (cal)
Brown
Stanford

My letters of recommendation will be stellar, 1 from Russian teacher (only bad thing is that her english is relatively weak) and 1 from Italian teacher, but I don't know how the LOR from the dean will be. I never met him. Essays are pretty good, I wrote them already. Thanks for your responses.

I don't believe it's mathematically possible to reach a 4.0 once you've already gone below it, without grade inflation of course. Other than that, you're in fair game -- but your extracurriculars and SAT could be a bit stronger.

It is possible to get a 4.0. Some universities offer a 4.33 for an A+.

the semester isn't over, currently I have 3 A's and a B+. Well I don't think retaking the SAT would make me a markedly better candidate since my grades are high. Well that averages about 6 hours per week of extracurriculars which I think is reasonable. What do you think?

Your gpa is good, but schools like brown, stan, and chicago will also look at your SAT. Your ECs could probably be more focused towards major, interests and career.

nspeds, right, that's what i meant by grade inflation.

Offering an A+ does not constitute grade inflation.

Fine: offering anything over a 4.0

There is no mention of A+ in the article.

My community service is a language learning (my passion)one and I am in the Russian club.
I tutor international students in English.
My first choice is Chicago, and 1330 is 25% for first years, so with college grades, I think academically I am competitive. Is this bad logic? I was advised that 1300+ is good for schools like Chicago and USC.

Interesting article (not to mention, the students who happen to encounter a professor who is willing to dish out C's as if they are, literally, going out of style will be shafted in comparison to those with better luck). Am I missing some sort of implicit point being made? Or did you just give us that for show?

There is no claim that handing out anything above a 4.0 is grade inflation. Grade inflation does not constitute the type of grade given in a single instance, but rather the frequent occurance of giving above-average grades.

Earning an A+ is a rare occurance in the schools that offer it.

derek -- chicago and usc, you seem to be competitive enough. stanford and brown may be a stretch. (except if you have a ton of money for brown. brown likes their tranfers' pockets to be bulgy).

Stanford is just a dream. lol I just hope my essays are good enough.

I already acquiesced, nspeds, you needn't provide me any further goodle search results; I said fine, it's not technically grade-inflation. However, it's still providing some students with an opportunity to tip the 4.0 scale that most do not have.

It was not a google search result. It was an article by the creator of www.gradeinflation.com

what do you think about my chancesnspeds? I appreciate the article but would also like some opinions. Thanks. Anyone else can give me feedback as well. :-)

Erudite you are. Oh oh, how my little knees quiver.

Assuming you do not apply for financial aid at Brown, you have an excellent chance at all those schools except Stanford.

Do I have a relatively bad chance at Stanford? Or just average, 7%?
