Transfer Chances?

Im applying for transfer as a college freshman, and I got a 3.4 gpa my 1st semester in college and got a 1280 SAT score in high school. Im applying to:

Virginia Tech
James Madison
UVA
UMich (already got deferred, not expecting to get in)
Maryland
-Instate at the 1st three if it matters
I dont wanna get screwed like in high school where I dont get into any of the schools I wanted to go to... do you think I have a good shot at these schools? If not, could you recommend maybe one school similar to the others I could apply to, and probably get accepted to? Dont really feel like staying at my current school or goin to community college next year.

can anyone help me out?

100% sure you will get into Maryland.

JMU - accepted
UMD - accepted
VT - accepted -Except Engineering or Architecture highly questionable
UVA - slight reach to reach
UMich - slight reach to reach

by the way, I got rejected by all of those schools last year except UMich (didnt apply).. will that hurt my chances?

you'll be accepted to all except UVa and Michigan i would say. you do however have a better shot at Michigan than you do at UVa. it matters a lot what your major is. best of luck to you. give it shot

Transfer Dean Roberts has told me he views competitive applicants as those who have a gpa of 3.4+

Yeah I have a 3.4 exactly so im barely competitive for UVA... i'd love to get in but yeah not banking on it. So are you all pretty certain I could get into JMU, Virginia Tech and Maryland? If so, id have a tough time choosing where to go. And to the poster a few posts above, im majoring in business if thatll effect my chances at some of the schools.

I'd go with Maryland if you got in. Better academics than JMU and VT. It has a big sports scene but their business program is one of their best if not best program. It is ranked top 20 in the country so it may be tough for you to transfer into.

I don't know how it works for transfers, but you could apply to Arts & Sciences and try an internal transfer into the business program. I'm not positive so double check with Maryland if it's possible.

How is it a sure thing that he's in Maryland? thats my top choice and with my 3.4 or 3.5 at the end of the spring I'm worried about my chances. I'm in-state too with 1250 sat's

If you want to major in business at UMD, do you enter the business school as a freshman? If not, what year do you apply for the bus school? Thanks

UMDCP is not very selective - you have a shot with a 3.0+

UVa takes lots of transfers and most are in state which is definitely in your favor. You will be in consideration, if you have what they are looking for, you will be in. Where are you coming from?

If Univ of MD is not very selective, then that makes me very very happy.

unless you are applying to the robert h smith (undergrad) business school, you'll get in with a 3.4

yup UMD Smith Business School (undergrad) is very strong I don't think you'll make into their with a 3.4 so my suggestion is try for Arts & Sciences where you will most likely be accepted and internally transfer if possible

Well I already sent my application in and said im majoring in business... does anyone know what year you enter the business school? I know at UVA its your 3rd year.

Same with UMD. I plan on applying Letters and Sciences on the application, with my 2nd choice being listed as History. That way it doesn't make me look THAT undecided, haha. I'm sure theres always room for history majors.

I transferred to Michigan with a 3.3.... hope that give you some hope for your deferral changes

UMrunner, what school did you transfer from?
