Transfer Chances

This is for my brother who is a freshmen at UChicago and is finishing his 2nd quarter there. He has maintained a 4.0 with tough courseload. He is an active memebr of Chicago Debating Society and some literary groups. Also in a frat.

High School Stats:

2390
3 800's on SAT II's
3.59 , tough school, no rank.
Lots of EC's, president of 3 clubs, captain of varsity team

What do you think his chances are?

I dont think he has a really good reason to transfer, just that he wants a more competitive atmosphere, and he wants to take classes by some noted professors at Harvard. (ie Mankiw)

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?

??????????????????

Are you sure this is not for you?

I mean I think you are solid... if he wants to transfer then I'd be shocked to find out if he were denied admission.

As a freshman at Uchicago, though, I'll have to agree and say that his reasons are prob. not the best, and, more importantly, that I dont think that Harvard will give him any more of what he's looking for than UChicago is. Since he's just a freshman, he hasnt really gotten into the actual ECON courses yet. ECON is by far the most competitive major at UChicago, and I doubt that its competitiveness would be deemed mild by anyone. Also, if he truly has that drive, during his 3rd and 4th year he is certainly allowed to enroll in the graduate seminars, all lead by Becker, Heckman, Lucas... he will have some of the brightest ECON PhDs next to him and in terms of the professors, you cant get any more "noted" than that.

Just as a last point, Mankiw's famous class at Harvard is EC10. EC10 is held in huge lecture formats in Sanders Theatre(I will say that Sanders Theatre is actually pretty gorgeous), and he actually only teaches about 6 classes in that sequence. Just keep that in mind.

what would be some good reasons to transfer to harvard?

^^^ ummm, because people everywhere lust for the big H? like really, really, drooling, craving, and daydreaming about it?

That wouldn't be a great reason to present to the adcoms..
