Transfer Chances

I'm currently a first-semester sophomore at a small college in Western Massachusetts. I'm looking to transfer into a school with a strong creative writing program.

My college credentials are as follows:
GPA: 3.60, but that will be raised up to a 3.7 by the end of the semester
AWARDS: Alpha Lambda Delta, psychology recognition award
EXTRACURRICULARS: Vice president of my dorm, member of my class council, mentor twice (last semester and this year) at local schools
WORK: Office on campus

For high school: (I was unable to perform to the best of my abilities due to medical reasons)
GPA: 2.6
SAT: 1100 (old version; 560 on verbal and 540 on math)
EXTRACURRICULARS: Destination Imagination, a creative, team-building, problem-solving organization. I was involved in this for ten years and was awarded the Spirit Award my senior year.

I also took a Gap Year in between high school and college. During this time, I worked at a (national level) store in the mall, where I was one of the top sales associates in the company. The vice-president brought many of my ideas back to the corporate office to be distributed throughout the company.

I'm planning on applying to EMERSON, FORDHAM, and LOYOLA (Maryland). Possibly also to Manhattan and Columbia. Do these seem reasonable (except for Columbia, which I'm just applying to for kicks)?

Thank you for any help!

Anyone? I'd really like to know what my chances are!

Hi, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you are. I think you should be good at Loyola. One of my best friends goes there and she loves it.

I'm also applying to Fordham as a transfer for junior standing. Which campus are you applying to? I think you should be pretty solid for Fordham as well. I'm not too sure about the others.

Good luck!

Thanks so much, Ameno! I really appreciate it!
I want to go to the campus in Manhattan for Fordham -- I'm not sure what it's called, haha Where are you applying to?

You might want to take a look at Pace University as a safety. They are in NYC, I know how much you would like that. I'm not sure if they have creative writing though. I thought you were planning on not even trying at Columbia?

You might even have a chance at NYU CAS or Gallatin

I'm thinking about applying to the Lincoln Center campus as well, although I heard it's a bit more difficult to get in seeing as the space is more limited. I'm looking for a better creative writing program myself.

I really like the looks of UNC's creative writing minor. I don't know if you looked into it yourself. I think UNC might be a bit of a reach for me, and our stats are pretty similar, but hey, it's worth a shot if you're interested. It's in a more rural area, and I really want to be in NYC as well, but the program looks like it could outweigh the location.

Thanks for all your input, guys!

Do you know if NYU Gallatin is more competitive than CAS? (I'd assume it is because of the nature of the school, but any input is much appreciated!)

Oh, and do you know if you can apply to more than one school at NYU? For example, could I apply to both CAS and Gallatin? Or is it just one application and you get in wherever?

NYU is nice for you. It won't be too difficult!!

You can only apply to one school at NYU, and CAS is alot more competitive to get into than Gallatin. Both programs are good though...depends on your interests
