Hello! I am currently a freshman at Columbia College in Chicago, where I just finished my first semester. I am applying as a transfer for the Fall 09 semester at W&M. I would really appreciate input on my chances of getting in.

High school GPA: 3.99
ACT: 33
AP classes: 4, with a score of 4 or 5 on every test
National Honor Society member
French National Honor Society member
Several theater productions
Other extracurriculars-- clubs, etc.
Member of my audition-based college improv team
College GPA: 3.94 after one semester

Also, I am currently a theater major and plan to major in that at whatever school I transfer to. Does William & Mary have a good theater department?

I think you have a very good chance of being admitted. Good work on your GPA! You obviously have what it takes to succeed in college - and W&M will take note of it.

I do not have direct contact with the theater dept. but I believe it is a very strong program. Numerous plays and performances are put on throughout the year and there is much interest in that area. Sorry I can't be more specific, but the theater dept. here is a big deal to interested students and from what I can tell, they do an excellent job.

Good luck - you've done superb so far, keep it up!

My daughter is a freshman at Lehigh and would like to transfer to William and Mary. We live in the Northeast so are out-of-staters. I am wondering how W&M weights its transfer applicants as to state of residence?

She has an A- average there, two AP scores of 4, 32 on her ACT and SATs of 2140. Any chance?

She is – regretfully – leaving because the curriculum is not strong enough in the Creative Writing, Art and History departments. It is a wonderful school and she is sad to leave, but the school’s strengths are in its strong Business and Engineering programs.

Lehigh says that 40% of the students are in the College of Arts and Sciences, which is true, but many of them are economics, sciences and other related majors. She took some excellent history courses and a great Buddhism seminar, but she wants to major in English and that is not a Lehigh specialty.
