Transfer Chances

looking to transfer for sophomore year to northwestern from a large public university.

my first semester GPA was 4.0, and my GPA after this semester should be about a 3.8 at least. i came in with 30+ ap credits at my current university.

decent extracurriculars- leadership roles, volunteering...

i have a problem with the rec. i have no prospects for a recommendation. would i for sure get rejected if i did not submit a recommendation?

Technically, a recommendation is recommended-not required. However…why would you have this problem that NO Professor-Teacher/ Advisor knows you well enough to write you a recommendation. The fact that you attend a large public university may be a challenge-but certainly not impossible. You have until May 1—get to know someone!

Why can’t you get a rec from a teacher at your secondary school?

If you have non-professor instructors that teach their own sections (I had a couple of postdocs teaching at UW), they can sometimes write a recommendation if you think they’ll know you better. It’s tough, and you may have to field the “are we not good enough?” question (most large public universities know they’re not for everyone), but you can do it.

I also came in with a ton of AP credits (one year’s worth), but note that NU only allows you to count four towards the residency requirement as a transfer student.

my mom is a kellogg alumna, will this have any effect on my transfer chances?
