Hi, I’m currently taking summer classes to get a head start on my GEs. I was wondering if the grades/gpa transfers over to cal poly too, or just the credits. Is there any difference between getting an A in the class and a C?
Thanks.
Credits transfer not GPA. Your CC course grades will be separate from your SLO GPA.
My son’s dual enrollment credit grade transferred. His transcript shows two GPAs, all collegiate work and the CP only GPA.
Yes, the credits will transfer over. Your academic portal will show two GPAs like @eyemgh mentioned. One will be your cal Poly GPA, and the other will be your cumulative higher ED GPA which includes all collegiate work.
Do you have to get approval from Cal Poly ahead of time to take GE or major classes during the summer at another university? That’s what is says on the Summer FAQ website. However, when my DD called this spring and asked if she took classes at another university this summer, would they transfer to SLO. The person on the phone advised her that as long as the class descriptions were close enough, she should be fine and the classes would transfer, but there was no way to know for sure ahead of time. She is currently taking 1 GE class and 1 GE/major class at an out-of-state university. The course titles/descriptions are nearly identical to SLO’s classes. Will these transfer without preapproval? TIA!
They should transfer as long as the descriptions are similar and they state that it satisfies general education requirements at the other school. What you want is the “course substitution form” which they have at the academic advising offices. Fill one of those out and attach both course descriptions and submit it. Keep in mind it may take up to 3 weeks to have it approved, and then many months afterwards for it to transfer. If you talk to the right people, or need it expedited for a urgent reason, then there are ways to get it transferred quicker.
For courses instate(california), you can use assist.org to check if they transfer over.
Best of Luck!
