Transfer Decisions to UW

So, I just called the University of Miami’s Admissions and the lady I spoke to was not very helpful, she just told me that I can pay the deposit after May 1st, I just won’t be guaranteed a spot.

@MarquisShowChoir, that’s risky. You should definitely pay the deposit at the school you will be attending if you don’t get into the UW. I’ve always wanted to go the UW. Excellent programs and faculty, abundant research opportunities, and a beautiful campus. Seattle is also a plus!

psychguy, yeah it is, the thing is I’m waiting on the other UCs, except Santa Barbara, so I don’t want to pay a deposit to too many schools. I see, I’ve never visited Seattle before, but I want to, I’m also a Seahawks fan haha. I’ve checked out the site and there seems to be many opportunities. Also, I know one guy who goes there and he seems to like it, he posts pictures of the campus and those Seattle Spring days haha, looks lovely, not sure how I feel about the rain though, but I probably would like it there better than Boston, Boston is just way too cold for me and I’m not a big fan of what such a non-city feel it has, I like being in a city where it feels like a city haha. Do you know if UW has any animal research opportunities?

I can only speak for the psychology department. As far as animal research, there are ton of opportunities to get involved with some of the professors ongoing research. Some of the faculty focus entirely on animal behavior, as this is a area of study in the graduate program.

“Faculty are active in a broad range of research areas, with major emphasis on animal communication, development, primate behavior, evolutionary psychology, behavioral neuroscience, behavioral genetics and social behavior.”

But yeah, you’ll get used to the rain. It’s pretty mild weather year round (i.e. not too cold, not too hot).

@psychguy Oh I see, hmm interesting, I’m just completely new to the idea of getting research opportunities, volunteering, and what not. I’m in a six year PharmD program at the school I am at now and well we really don’t need to do anything extra since our career path is pretty set and you guessed it, I don’t want to be a pharmacist since I’m leaving.

That sounds good, it gets way too cold here, sometimes I don’t even want to leave my apartment because it’s too cold outside, also I live on a hill so it’s no fun walking back up it in the cold and especially in the snow. It rains quite a bit here too, but I’m sure it rains more over there. I heard Seattle summers though are not like any other!

I called the admissions office today and admissions said decisions were sent on March 31st.

@courts, for which campus? They each run independently of each other. I received a random e-mail from the main campus earlier last month that they were ‘on schedule’ to notifying transfers within their time-frame. Which is June-July for autumn applicants and May-June for summer applicants.

I called the Seattle campus regarding notifications for Fall 2013 transfer applicants.

Hi, guys. I’m another Fall 2013 transfer waiting for an response from the UW. I have a transfer friend who not only recieved an acceptance but also told me that the UW employee she talked to said that basically all transfers were going to have their notifications sent out by the 31st.

@ShrewViking, is it the 31st of July?

What she told me was actually the 31st of March, and she did get her acceptance that week as well. So I’m a little confused since it’s in theory supposed to be June/July. “courts” sounds like they got the same information in contacting the Seattle campus.

whaaaat why would they mail them so early though? Now I’m getting all nervous haha…summer transfer here.

Somehow since it seems that other transfers haven’t gotten a reply yet, I don’t think they did send them out that early. Possibly my friend accidently applied as a freshman and heard wrongly, I don’t really know. Personally, I need to know by May 1st at the very latest, which is the deadline for WWU, which I was accepted to. So, I really can’t wait til June/July- talk about frustrating!

Yeah that is really frustrating… I really don’t get why UW takes so long to let us know! Good luck making a decision ;(

The lady I spoke to said it will be on the UW portal as well. And I made it really clear I was a transfer applicant.

hi, guys. i am also thinking the autumn 2013 transfer decisions were sent out on the 31st. i got an email from the admissions office a couple days ago (on the 3rd) saying they had sent me a (snail) mail and it was returned to them. they asked for my current address. yes, i recently moved though i gave them a separate mailing address on my application which was a po box so i dont know why this had happened in the first place. anyway, i live in federal way - about 30 minutes away from the campus - so that would have been enough time for them to send and get back whatever the mail was between the 31st and the 3rd or maybe the 2nd.

i am sooooo nervous right now.i hope the “correspondence” that they wanted to get out to me was an acceptance, not a rejection.

cheers everyone.

im getting nervous, my unofficial transcript haven’t load for Seattle yet D:

I’m still a little skeptical. I mean, I’m all for early notification, but they would have notified the applicants if their timeline had changed. My application has yet to change from being the standard, “This message will not change unless additional information is required or until a final admission decision is made.” I’m assuming they send all admission notifications at once, since the transfers are a much smaller and more manageable pool of applicants. Anyone else agree?

@longhornedhusky, you should check your unofficial transcript and the seattle campus application on MyUW and let us know what it says! If they had sent you an offer of admissions/rejection letter, it would have changed the status on the application and potentially updated your information on the unofficial transcript.

@psychguy my status or transcript hasn’t changed either! if anyone has changed or received a letter please let us know…
