Does anyone know when transfer decisions are supposed to come out? I applied for the fall 2012 term and haven't heard back yet, but I also got accepted to UIllinois and I need to give them my decision by May 1. However, I don't want to commit to the UofI in case I get accepted to W&M... Does anyone know if we'll get info back before the end of April?

You will probably need to email your other school and see if they’ll give you an extra couple days, because you’ll be cutting it very close; I did that with U Mary Wash. last semester and they were fine with the extension. W&M doesn’t generally give a date when they send stuff out, they just generalize it to late April/ early may. It’ll likely be late April, but “best laid plans” and all that.

Late April is when we’re supposed to hear, unless I’m mistaken. That’s what I’ve heard and it sounds about right judging from last year. I believe emails were sent out April 30, so they really mean late April. If you need an earlier decision, you might be able to call the admissions and get an earlier decision. One day wouldn’t be enough for me to decide between two schools I really liked…

Late April/early May is correct. We don’t know more than that right now. We cannot give you a decision any earlier but you can call other schools and ask for an extention which is generally granted.

Just got accepted via e-mail a couple hours ago! SO HONORED TO BE A PART OF THE W&M TRIBE!!!

Congrats! W&M Admission, by what date will you have sent out all acceptances? Will they be sent over the next few days or weeks?

@sknsheehan22, congrats!

@anthro4387, we sent out a small percentage of admits to transfer applicants tonight. These are students who were a) read early in our process and b) presented incredibly strong application credentials and thus were clearly competitive without committee review. Those who did not receive a decision tonight are in no way disadvantaged or less likely to be admitted. We still have the bulk of our admission offers to make and will be emailing the rest of our decisions to remaining applicants in late April/early May (the rest of our decisions will likely be released all on the same date).

Thanks for the info! So the remaining transfer applications are now about to go under review? Or have they all been reviewed at this point?

W&M Admission: Thanks for the news…daughter heard tonight and is very happy. It seems like W&M works very hard to help transfer students become part of the Tribe and to feel connected with each other as well as the whole college community.

So for those who were early transfer admits, care to share your stats? GPA, school type (public/private, CC, SLAC, etc.), major, SAT, Virginia residency, year in school, admitted/waitlisted at W&M previously etc.

Young Historian: My daughter is in state and a biology major who will enter as a sophomore. She was accepted last year but chose a private school in New England which offered her a large academic scholarship. She’s decided she would like to be closer to home.

@anthro4387, it’s a combination. Some transfers are still going through our review process (there’s no order to our reads; some simply get pulled and read earlier than others) and others have been reviewed (meaning they’ve been read) and are about to go through our Committee process in the coming weeks (the Committee process takes several days).

Thanks for all your info! Luckily, no more wondering for me, got accepted by e-mail just now
I’m an out-of-state French major from Grinnell College. I had really good high school stats, but my college GPA last semester was 3.2 so I didn’t think I’d get accepted! I also applied to W&M as a freshman, was waitlisted, and stuck on the waitlist until the end, so I think maybe that helped my admittance a bit.

@marya135 Congrats! When did you submit your application? I am still waiting to hear from W&M.

@beverlywang Thank you! I believe that I sent the envelope in around the middle of February. Best of luck with your admissions!!

@beverlywang, when your application was submitted does not determine the decision you will get or when you will get it. We pick applications from the drawer to read in random order and some simply go through our review process faster than others. Additionally, some applicants are so strong in credentials across the board they they do not need committee review. Most of our applications are still working their way through our review process and those students should hear from us in late April/early May.

@marya135 Thank you for your answer!
@W&M Admission Thanks for the explanation! I can’t wait to hear about the decisions! :)

W&M Admission, any idea on how much longer until review is finished/emails will be sent out?

As soon as we have a definitive decision on that front we’ll be sure to let everyone know. There are so many moving parts to this process we won’t know that decisions are ready to be released until just before they are.

Got in!! so happy!!! :D
