Transfer Dorms/Housing

no...if you are in a single you have no roommate. If you are in a single in a suite you will have suitemates.

what dorms have suites for transfers?

every dorm on West except for the Gothics.

can you request a suite or is it done randomly?

I'm not sure...you will be randomly assigned to anyone of the open rooms. But you will most likely be given a room in one of the new suite-style dorms.

So: if I just want a single room, then I should request a Gothic. If I was a single within a suite, then any of the dorms on West.

From what I remember here, I think West is better than the Gothics, right?

This is a simple question, but I can't find information on the Cornell website. Is internet access available in the rooms via ports, or is it just wireless (which I read they are charging for)?

You are charged for exceeded your usage limit through both routes of access...wired or wireless.

The Gothics are on West Campus and the new houses are much nicer on the inside than the Gothics. I'm not sure if you will be able to indicate a preference for a specific dorm when you apply for housing. However...I do imagine that most rooms currently open for transfers are in the newer buildings.

Ah, I found the information. RedRover: Frequently Asked Questions

I thought they were charging more for using Red Rover, but I must have misread that. 10GB/month is reasonable, no? As long as you're not downloading media...

Yeah...I think you just misread that. There is no difference in what you are charged and really, it's not a lot. When I lived on campus we had a 2GB limit and I only went over it once...and got a bill for $0.28.

10 gigs really is a lot....I wouldn't worry about it.

If you only use the internet for surfing and email, you won't surpass 2 GB.

I accidentally used 4 times the monthly limit one time (this was back when the limit was 2 GB) and was charged $9.

It's funny, I forgot about this rule. Is this a Cornell-exclusive policy, or do other schools have this too? And is there a legitimate reason behind it?

It probably serves to a) limit cost, b) prevent a few individuals from interrupting the network and c) limit file sharing... a win-win as far as the school is concerned. Then again, I'm just guessing.

Just curious; does anyone know around what time of April/May Cornell releases transfer decisions?

when I was accepted...I got my letter with the 1st batch....around the very end of April

What should I do if other schools are demanding I send them my decision within 10 days? (Now more like 7 or 8 days, actually...)

Um... I don't know really what to say, but I think it's EXTREMELY unlikely decisions will be announced within 7-8 days. Stall maybe?!?

You can contact the schools and tell them you're waiting on other decisions and would it be possible to have the deadline extended. There's no way decisions will be announced in the next week.

are the rooms in the west campus houses carpeted or bare floor?

pretty sure they're all carpeted
