So it's crunch time and I'm finishing up my common application essay. I'm a little concerned though because its going to be in the ball park of 600-650 words. Is this too long? I have a lot to tell because my background is nontraditional and needs to be discussed in addition to my reasons for transferring. What do you think?

well i did the essay for ND and it was 400-500 words as what they wanted - i went to 650... as long as you are not over 1 page and are concise, not dragging on. You should be fine. as long as it isn't boring and repetitive, you should be okay.

you mean as long as im not 1 page over what they suggest right? because right now im 3/4 down the 2nd page.eeeek

Its just kinda hard to ignore the whole spending my whole life up until this point to be a professional ballet dancer....:-/

haha... 3/4 down the second page.... I'd cut that down. concise, concise, concise... They are reading tons of applications and if they fall asleep they are just going to throw you out for boredom. try and make it as direct as possible while still showing who you are. If you want, i did this, write an essay within the guidelines and then send a second letter in the mail saying you didnt believe it fit into the essay here is what i would also like to say. did it for UMich and i got in

hmm that is a good idea. lol right now i dont think it's boring, but obviously i am not a good judge of this haha...the prob im having is that there are no guidelines. just 250 words minimum. right now im at 499 words lol...looks like i have some phone calls to make tomorrow- pulls hair out bc of stress-lol
