I also forgot to mention that I am an EXTREMELY strong legacy. Parents, two aunts, two uncles, and both of my grandfathers taught there at one point.
Congrats to everyone!! If you have any questions about transfer life at UR or anything else, feel free to let me know! Also, if you plan on living on campus next year get your deposit down ASAP because last year they ran out of housing.
@rvalover7 Were there any activities that helped transfers get acclimated to UR or with other transfers? How was your transfer experience?
@jalopnick21 Hi! So for me, the transition wasn’t bad because I had a lot of friends that already went to UR and I also lived in the area for several years. Transfer students participate in their own orientation with events that are tailored just to them. Your orientation advisors are also transfer students. So for example, during orientation this year there was a transfer only dinner with specific members of the university. We also did the high ropes course during orientation. After orientation, it can be a little tricky. I think if you are outgoing or like to make friends then you’ll be fine. I still talk to most of the people from my transfer group today. Once you get involved with Greek life, clubs, student government, etc. you begin to meet people and that really helps.
@rvalover7 Great, I am glad that there are some events that are tailored to transfers. Thanks for sharing!
@rvalover7 Are transfer students allowed to go to admitted student day?
@rvalover7 So we are still working on getting the midterm report in just in case there happens to be any waitlist movement. At the same time we are looking at the best classes to take at a VCCS school over the next 2 semesters that will transfer in. I know he will have the Business school prereq classes but the general ed class groupings at UR are extremely hard to match. Could you tell me the classes that made it through the transfer grid when you came in…or who in the univ administration might be able to advise me on that? We live here in Richmond. Sorry to put all this in a public note…I don’t think I have access to send messages to your inbox. If you are able to send me a msg I can respond and that will get this discussion off the forum board.
@HooDad1 you can contact Dwayne Smith, he’s the transfer and curriculum analyst— dsmith22@richmond.edu
@andersonjc2 that is INCREDIBLY helpful. Thank you so much! I feel like if we prepare for Richmond it will meet any other school’s requirements as well. Hoping still for the shift in wait list status. He would be a third generation legacy. His grandpa started the Spider club and taught there too. But with vccs registration starting Monday we need to plan for both options! Thanks again…
@HooDad1 no problem!! I really hope things work out!
@Andersonjc2 Yes they are! I went to the biggest one they usually have, which is the Saturday date. There is a specific Q&A session just for transfer students as well where they have administrators from the University and a panel of transfer students speak.
@HooDad1 Yes for sure no problem! I’ll send you a message now!
Hey everyone, I received my acceptance package in the mail yesterday! (March 27 - Miami, FL)
Still no financial aid decision, and just like @godzpeach I can’t log into my account to check my credit transfer evaluation and I called but they can’t figure it out either.
Community College in Miami
High School GPA: 4.00 (unweighted) 4.87 (weighted)
College GPA: 4.00
No SAT/ACT
Clubs: SO many from high school but only PTK in college
Jobs: Worked full time during freshmen year
Essay: I demonstrated lots of interest!
Good luck!!!
@transfer9692 yeah I’m also having trouble signing in anywhere with that ID they gave us. Hope it’s figured out soon.
Got our daughter’s financial aid packet in the mail today. Very generous. Crunching the numbers between that and outside scholarships. We live in Va. 2 day mailing time between us and UR.
@Andersonjc2 Hey! I just logged on and it finally worked, I guess they just had to finish our accounts. You should try logging in again. I have 86 credits at my current college and they’re only transferring 8.73 units (I imagine that’s like 26.19 credits?) Super bummed.
@transfer9692 Yeah UR is very picky about what they transfer and I believe after a certain number of units are transferred they cap what they take after that sadly.
@rvalover7 Yeah I mean there’s a few more requirements that should be fulfilled (AP and DE + some college credits), so I’m hoping the units will increase. I’m still waiting for other admission decisions but I’m really hoping UR’s FA will meet my needs so this lack of units situation won’t be an issue!
@transfer9692 Can you send me the link to login please, I can’t seem to access my account.
