Transfer for Fall 2016 to UW Madison

I am a Wisconsin resident who is currently a freshman student UC San Diego. I am looking to transfer back home to UW Madison after this year. I am talking to a transfer adviser at UWM this week to talk about credits and classes. What are my chances of getting in? Here are my stats:

High School

GPA: 4.0 unweighted (valedictorian)
AP Tests: 4 on Calc AB, 3 on English Lang
AP/College Credit: 19 credits
ACT: 28
ECs: NHS Secretary, Student Council VP, Pep Band, Marching Band, and Concert Band for all four years (drum major for one year), Varsity Volleyball Manager, National History Day State Alternate, member of volunteer group, and pre med club

College

Major: Molecular Biology (might change to microbiology)
First Quarter Classes: General Chem, Calc 2 (Math 20B - advanced class for engineers), Psychology, Biology
ECs: Girl Up, Pep Band, I hope to play an intramural sport this winter
GPA: I have not completed a full term yet, but I am expecting around a 3.3-3.5 for the quarter
Essay 1 (something that is overlooked): I wrote about overlooking my mental health during school and my ongoing battle with mental illness
Essay 2: I wrote about how my dream of living in CA was too good to be true and how I would contribute to UWM as a student and citizen

Some Questions I Have:

Will UWM take into consideration the level of difficulty of UC San Diego because of my GPA, which seems relatively low for their standards?
How does UWM feel about having a W on your transcript (I don’t yet, but may potentially)?
Does being a WI resident or transferring from a UC school give me any advantage?

I am so unhappy here at UC San Diego so it’s very important to me to be able to transfer back home. Thanks in advance for your input!

figured i’ll add mine in too

I am a freshman, transferring for fall 2016 as a sophomore.
I am in the UW system already at UW Eau Claire.
My application was sent in EARLY, 2 weeks ago, with a deadline of February 1st… hoping that submitting early will benefit me.
I am currently enrolled in 15 credits, taking 16 second semester. All of the credits will transfer over. I have a wide range of courses enrolled in. Writing, math, geography, english, psychology, sociology, philosophy, art…

I meet all of the high school requirements as far as like foreign language, math, science, and so on…

I have 3 clubs that I am involved with currently on campus, and 1 club here that I am earning active serve hours with. In total, I had 15 actives included from high school and college combined. Also went on 3 mission trips over my summers of freshman, sophomore, and junior years of high school (I listed that as my most important activity). Club volleyball, jv volleyball, youth group, girl scouts (silver and gold award earned)…

6 previous places of employment. (2 of which I am currently still working at just on a leave of absence until I’m back home for holidays)

I got 3 letters of recommendation sent in. 1 from my current college professor, 1 from my boss from a job I’ve worked 3+ years, and the other one from my high school art teacher.

My intended major is communication arts and something with art (graphic design / web design) which I talked about in my second essay. Also included in my second essay that to grow in this communication arts field, I would like to be set in a big city like Madison and that the University of Eau Claire is too small of a town and limits my opportunities for growth.

(Something I could also email admissions about is Eau Claire getting rid of their advertising degree, which is about as close to a communication arts program they offer here).

My first essay I talked about how I balance stress in my life and how art is a big stress reliever for me throughout life’s obstacles.

High school cumulative GPA was low… 3.2 ACT low as well, 32 (not submitting)
And I am expecting anywhere from a 3.1-3.35 for my 1st semester GPA in college

I was also planning on updating admissions along second semester, expressing interest in the University, giving updated service hours, even send in good grades that I hope to be receiving.
What do you think my chances are???

I am a Wisconsin resident transferring from UW-Stevens Point.
I am transferring from UWSP to UW-Madison as a junior. I’ll have 60 credits when I step foot on campus but I will be the age of a sophomore (I skipped a grade).
I got a call from the art department stating that I got into the art department but they are just waiting for the admissions office to send me the letter.

High School
GPA- 3.78
AP- Macro, English, and Stats (all passed)
Extra circulars- variety sports, president of 5 or 6 clubs with multiple state and national awards and titles. Too many clubs and stuff to mention.
ACT- low (23)

College
GPA- 4.0
Major- Art and Communications
60 credits and junior standing but I do plan to graduate in 2019 with the class I came to college with.
I will be joining the Delta Gamma sorority as a legacy.
Team captain of volleyball intramural.
I talked about how my childhood being raised by artist changed me and what not. I then talked about how UWSP didn’t have my emphasis for my art major and being from a city (Chicago) makes me want to be back in the city.
I got a letter of recommendation from an art professor at UW-Madison who was also one of my professors at UWSP.
I planned my classes so that all 60 credits will transfer.
Nervous about my ACT but the admissions office told me not to worry about it because of my academic performance in college.
