Transfer For Winter/Spring Semester

Hey, I'm currently an undergrad in the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor and I was thinking about transferring to MSU either for the upcoming Winter/Spring semester or the fall 2012 semester. I can honestly say that my decision to go to UofM was based soley on the reputation it had, which was a huge mistake. I have more friends at MSU and I've been up there a couple of times and the people are all so much more friendly and not snotty. I've been in Ann Arbor for roughly 2 months and I don't really like it and i definately don't really like the classes. Originally i wanted to do accounting, but then I decided i wanted to attempt to get into ross, but I don't see that happening so I thought I'd cut my losses and try to get in MSU for the winter/Spring semester.

However, I would only have 15 credits after this semester from UofM; however, I would easily have 25+ AP credits so would those count? I got a 29 on my ACT and my GPA was above a 4.0 in high school with 8 AP classes.

So would I be able to transfer into MSU for the Winter/Spring semester this year if the transfer deadline hasn't come up yet?

So my question is, when is the transfer deadline for the Winter/Spring semester and would I be able to transfer in? I was accepted as a senior in high school, I just choose UofM which seems to be a huge mistake.

Bump 10 char

Unfortunately, because of the ridiculous amount of freshmen that over-enrolled this year, they are not accepting ANY transfers for Spring 2012. The application for transfer for fall 2012 is already up: [Apply Now | Michigan State University Office of Admissions](http://www.admissions.msu.edu/toolbox/apply.asp)

I would say apply now and you’re probably be in. As long as you keep a 3.5+, you’ll be in. I would look over the MSU transfer site and take whatever classes you need to fulfill MSU’s gen ed requirements, that way you won’t be too far behind when you get here.

On a side note: good for you for doing what is best for YOU and not what it is assumed you should do. I turned down U of M because I couldn’t stand Ann Arbor and quite frankly I didn’t like the student body as a whole. I never regretted that decision and I’m sure you’ll fit in quite well when you get here :).

Best of luck!

Thanks. That’s unfortunate that I have to wait another semester. I think my freshman gpa will probably be around a 3.2-3.3 after my first year here. I know that Eli Broad wants a 3.5 for accounting majors, so would my new MSU gpa determin my acceptance into the program or will my old grades from UofM count as well.

I’m not sure about that, and there’s no one in Eli Broad here on the board (at least not active posters). Your best bet would be to call/email and find out :).

If you’re really set on just transferring to get out of U of M, you might want to transfer to a CC. If you truly don’t like it, then you might be better off going to a CC for a semester then transferring to MSU. It’s not a great option, but if not being happy is what is causing your grades to drop then it might be worth at least checking out.

Thanks. Yeah I’ll call the admissions office and look into it. For now, I’ll stay in Ann Arbor. Who knows it might get better. On the other hand, on the MSU transfer website it says…

The above requirements alone do not guarantee admission; consideration is stronger for applicants who have completed:
•28 or more credits deemed transferable to MSU (students with fewer than 28 transferable credits must have official ACT or SAT testing information sent to our office, along with an official final high school transcript)
•3.0 GPA or higher, with consistent grade performance
•Requirements for limited enrollment majors where necessary

For Eli Broad there is completely separate criteria for entrance. Check the broad website for details. You normally apply after you have completed all the prereqs & have the proper GPA (end of sophomore year/beginning of jr year?). As a transfer student you would normally not be accepted directly into the broad school unless you have completed all the prereqs/have the proper GPA already. Your MSU GPA when you are here would be incorporated with your UofM GPA to determine whether you get accepted to Broad (once you apply). Also, your AP credits all will transfer (as long as you meet MSU’s AP credit criteria). Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
