With all of the negative publicity surrounding suny Binghamton should my child consider tansferring after this soph year? Do you think the negative publicity related to the school and athletic program will go against him when applying for job/grad school in 2 years? Or will it have blown over by then?

okay, i transferred into binghsmton this semester, i’m considering trasferring again to canada due to many unsatisfying factors about the school.
i’m just wondering what kind of negativity about binghamton do you concern about? i’m curious.

I am a student at SUNY Binghamton right now. Please hear my opinion.

I am trying to transfer out myself, so I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can be, since I don’t LOVE the school. Nevertheless, the negative publicity the campus is getting is largely unfair and based on rumors an inaccuracies that are irrelevant to the social and academic life. I’m assuming you’re talking about the recent suspensions from the basketball team due to drug charges - these apply to students who are specifically recruited to play basketball at BU and may not have been admitted through their academic merits. Nevertheless, the academic and social integrity of Binghamton University is unchanged. The superb public education the school offers, the abundance of extracurriculars, the diversity make it one of the foremost leaders in state school education. I don’t want to sound like an admissions brochure, but I hate to see our school loose reputation over the stupid action of six people.

In two years, or even now, companies WILL NOT CARE for what our basketball team did. People sell crack at Harvard too.

I’m the last person to run around with my Binghamton pride - I feel that I truly belong at Cornell - but I tell you this: if your child is really happy at Binghamton, this is no reason to pull him out. He will get a fantastic education here.

Yes I was referencing the basketball situation but also the spillover to the academic area where a professor felt she was pressured into giving passing grades to athletes and then was fired and then was REHIRED. This speaks to ineptitude on the administrative level. Not to mention that it has taken nearly 3 weeks to put the basketball coach on leave. That should have been done much sooner as his ongoing disregard of NCAA recruiting rules seems to be ingrained in his character.
Just curious, why is Cornell a better match? Better name recognition; connections; students; physical beauty? Just curious because you seem to have many positive things to say about Binghamton.
