I'm planning on transfer from a ccc to uc in one year. That means that I have to take 25 units this semester and about 25 for the spring semester. I already have 10 uc transferable units from summer classes and AP credits.

Will this hurt my chance of getting into UC since the deadline to apply is November 30th which means they will have to wait until january 10 to see my fall grades.
Also I took english 96 (not uc transferable) during high school and got a C (it was summer ! I still regret since that class was really easy :(( ). Will this really hurt ?
Also I have a foreign diplomat visa(A1) which technically is international student but apparently it is different from F1 visa. How will having this status hurt my chance

I know it seems like I shouldnt do everything in 1 year but if I do it in 2 years it seems a waste of time. Also, it will cost me more for housing,....

Has anyone have experience transferring in 1 year ? or heard about a success story? Please give me advices and tell me your stories. Should I really wait 2 years than transfer or try to transfer in 1 year ?

What’s your major? Can you take any winter courses to reduce your course load? Transferring in 1 year is doable, just depends how disciplined and motivated one is.

I don’t think UC’s check non-transferable classes, at least to my knowledge.

I have a friend who transferred in one year. She worked her butt off and attended three community colleges every semester (though I don’t think she was full time at any, she did take a lot of courses). She also had plenty of AP credit and took college courses in high school so that helped.

I don’t think it would hurt your chances. If anything, if you maintain a good academic record, it would be more impressive. You also don’t need any units to apply, just as long as you have 60 by Spring before you enter the UC.

If you’re an international student, you’re going to have to work harder. But, of course, it’s definitely doable.

I plan to major in Communications at UCLA which is highly selective. I also plan to transfer to UCB, UCD and UCSB where the major is not really selective.

I have all the reasons on Earth to transfer only in 1 year. I cant imagine 2 at ccc and I cant stand one more day in my current city. So I am extremely motivated to stick to my 1 year plan.

However talking to some counselors today, they say that it is unlikely that i will be accepted to uc because they will only see my fall grades. I will have too many spring classes that they wont see. The counselors got a point. This is my biggest concern. I got in UCSB and UCSC as a high school senior but because I really want to go to a better UC (and financial reasons) I decide to attend a ccc. I dont want to rush through ccc but to be rejected at all UC’s…

I am really undecided. 1 year at ccc only is a big risk…

Also I have a question about pre-reqs .
I check on assist.org about prereqs. If my school just offer some of the pre reqs. Do i have to go part time at another school to complete all the pre reqs ? or I just have to complete the ones that offer at my school ?

You MUST go to other schools and complete ur prereqs if you want to get into UCLA. You can get in only 1 year, I did it. You’re taking a lot of classes so please don’t be a big hijynx and mess up ur GPA, estimate you’re free time (apart from other obligations such as work) and expect to put it to studying. If you just got out of high school, don’t rush to apply. Rather take 2 years and have a solid gpa then screw yourself over from the get go. Hope that helps

I think you can definitely do it! I’m taking 29.5 units right now and, for me, the works not too hard. I do have a difficult time remembering what classes I’m taking but a day planner helps me with that.

What is your hurry? You got a hot date with the real world or something? You in a hurry to get to the unemployment line? You should enjoy college, it’s suppose to be the best times of your life.

Community college is definately not one of the best times of my life. Thats why i transferred in a year after coming from UCSB. I can’t imagine having to stay for another year.

I guess this would apply if you went to an actual uni but CC doesn’t really count IMO (and I say this as a current CC student). There’s nothing enjoyable about it and it doesn’t feel like how college is supposed to feel. I can’t relate to any of the college stories that my friend’s tell me about. It sucks. I can understand why the OP wants to get out in 1 year.

One of the main reason I want to transfer is that I want to enjoy COLLEGE ! There is absolutely nothing to enjoy at a community college…absolutely NOTHING !

After analyzing/thinking about the pros and cons…I believe I will take more classes and winter intersession classes to transfer in 1 year. I still feel that it’s risky…I might still change my mind…but right now my parents are pushing me to complete ccc in 1 year and I myself have the motivation to do so…
Wish me luck :)

Please share your stories/experience if you transfer out of ccc in 1 year ! Please… any further advices/comments are welcomed

Hey CC is still college. Sure it is commuter and basically half the people there will drop out or never finish…but if you surround yourself with motivated people in CC who are also going to transfer, it will feel a lot more like a real college trust me.

how would you know what real college feels like if you’ve never had the whole freshman year experience that you would get at the UCs/CSUs? Its just not possible to even come close to replicating that experience at a community college and i am so glad that i was able to experience it.

Community College is still college but it’s completely different from let say UCLA or USC…

Most of my classmates are older than me. They work/have family/ and go to college at the same time…There are a lot of brilliant people…seriously. But they are super busy and have no time to join club/participate to activities…Basically community college is not a place to socialize. People just go there for whatever is their purpose then go home/work…

I really want to experience the “true” college years…where ppl live on campus hang out and blablabla…hope u guys get the point…:)

That’s only one of the main reasons (and probably the least important reason) I want to transfer in 1 year…
