I’m currently a second-year computer engineering student at San Jose State. I recently applied to UCD, UCI, and UCSD for Fall 2016.
Majors I Applied for Each Campus:
UCD: Major: Computer Science Alternate Major: Mathematics
UCI: Major: Computer Science and Engineering Alternate Major: Mathematics
UCSD Major: Computer Engineering Alternate Major: Mathematics
I chose Mathematics as an alternate major since I’ve completed almost every pre-requiste course except for maybe one class for UCD. For Computer Science, I’m missing a couple to maybe three prereqs.
I currently have a 3.84 GPA, and don’t really have any ECs.
I know I’m a CSU-UC transfer applicant, but is there any hope?
There’s hope. It’s going to be a crap shoot, more or less - I think you’ll get into at least one of the schools. Your GPA is very competitive.
I’m curious, why are you transferring out of SJSU? I’m a CS major at community college and I thought SJSU was well-known for its computer science/engineering majors because of the location.
yeah sjsu is pretty good for it, but there’s honestly no school life here. the only thing I do is study and go home, since its a commuter school. if you just want to focus on studying then its fine
@ahong681 you will probably get into UCI and UCD. UCSD is a bit more popular for CS, and since ccc applicants usually have priority admission, ucsd might be a bit more difficult to get into. If you have already completed all major prep, there is a good chance you might be accepted to all 3. Your gpa is very competitive.
@lenocturne does it hurt if I’m missing some prereqs?
@ahong681 for ucsd, it does, since all CSE majors at ucsd are impacted. Simply put, you have better chances of getting into ucsd with 3.5 and all major prep done, than with 4.0 and missing prereqs. UCI and UCD are more probable in your case. Also, it might depend on what exactly you are missing. They care a lot about math prereqs (differential equations, linear algebra) and cs prep (java or c++, data structures, computer architecture). Though with your gpa you could easily be offered your alternative major.
