Hello!
I will be starting as a freshman at San Diego State this fall. I would like to transfer to USC in fall of 2016. I am currently entering SDSU as a Finance major, but my goal is to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/ Business Administration at USC!
USC has no articulation agreement with SDSU, so how should I determine what classes I need to take to maximize my chances? Should I be taking CS classes even though I’m a finance major? I already have my schedule, so if I have to change it up I need to figure this out ASAP because SDSU classes are already filling up.
Why do you want to transfer since you have not begun taking classes at SDSU? Why not double major at SDSU for CS/Bus Admin?
If you have good HS stats, you might want to take a GAP year, bolster your application and reapply as a Freshman for next year. You will have a better chance for FA/Merit aid as a Freshman vs. a Transfer unless you can pay the costs at USC. Another option would look at CCC’s that articulation agreements with USC and where you would be able to better match your classes for transfer.
So you didn’t get into USC?
Why even go to SDSU?
I really think you have your priorities mixed up. SDSU is a hidden gem. There are lots of positions in CS in San Diego with large corporate firms and fx companies, and lots of alumni connections to the biggies.
I agree with @Gumbymom, take a gap year, and allow someone else, on the SDSU wait list, to take your spot. Then you can try to improve your resume for USC next year since you clearly do not want to be at SDSU.
There is no guarantee that you will get into USC. If you didn’t get in the first time, that doesn’t mean you stand a better chance the second time with fewer transfer openings. At minimum, USC IS $62k + per year and very limited financial aid. My son, a NM “winner” was accepted into their CS program but received a weak financial package. He got into some really good schools and opted not to go to USC; when compared to the other programs, he chose another school.
USC tuition will continue to increase over the next few years. I’m guessing you have the cash to go there?
My youngest sister graduated from USC and was very active there, but lives in San Diego and participates in AZTEC activities year round.
