I'm a new freshman at UCSB. It's becoming more and more apparent to me that UCSB's vibe isn't for me. I had always had plans of attempting a transfer to UCLA when I was in Junior standing. I haven't taken any classes here yet, but I have 44 units from UCI summer school and AP classes. The question I have is this: would it be wise to attempt a transfer this year? It wouldn't be hard to have over 90 units by the end of the year. Will use of AP units somehow hinder my chances at being accepted? Has anyone done or heard of a UC to UC transfer being completed in only one year?

Anyone know?

I would suggest you to transfer at junior level. Because when you apply this year, you would hardly provide any college academic performance or extracurriculars. The application deadline is in November and you won’t be having any grades from college by then. And I highly doubt you would do anything extraordinary in the next two months to demonstrate your leadership abilities and such as well.

Why do you not like UCSB? UCSB wasn’t my first choice, either. But I fell in love with it after freshman year fall quarter. I don’t think I would be happier if I did go to Cal or UCLA. I have visited both and stayed in UCLA for a few days, but I feel like I still prefer UCSB’s laid-back atmosphere. And maybe you can tell me the things you don’t like about UCSB, and I’ll give you some advice on making your one year here more enjoyable.
