Transfer from UCSC to UCD or UCSD

Hi cc,

UCSC is not the place for me. I do not get along with the people here or think the way they do. I am only here because I got bad grades in high school. I knew I wouldn't love it, but gave the campus the benefit of the doubt. So many programs and facilities are inferior here compared to other UC schools and I am just pretty fed up at this point. I am a smart guy and want to be in an environment with other people who are as achieving as I am. I also want to go to a school with at least some sports so I can play in the band again (tuba). I sincerely miss band and hopefully will play again my junior year.

My major is economics. At the end of this quarter (winter), my GPA will be 3.77. It is possible it might get higher or a tad lower, but I am banking on at least a 3.5+ when I transfer. I will have all of UCSC's GE's completed in my first two years prior to transferring. I am also going to take a summer school course at UCB over the summer (my home town).

I currently do not have any EC's, because jobs on the campus are slim to none, and believe me, I have looked. Volunteering is pretty pitiful here as well. I am going to try to get a summer job and get an on campus job for fall of 2009 for the entire year if I can snatch one up.

So, what am I looking like as a UC transfer student? My first choice is UCD, because I wanted to go there as a Freshman but did not have the grades. My second choice probably is UCSD, then Cal/LA. Any suggestions do increase my chances? How do I stand at these schools?

I really appreciate the advice. I do not want to come off in a negative way. I am just a guy who has been at UCSC for ~5 months and has a hard time finding people who are into 'schoolwork.' Thanks!

as you probably know, cc students get top priority, so its much harder to transfer from UC to UC. but your gpa looks good and you seem to have a pretty good shot at davis and decent for ucsd.

and i believe that GPA is what counts the most so it doesn’t matter that much if you don’t have EC’s

UCSD isn’t much better if you are looking for excitement…however I do concede it is a pretty good school (especially in the science/math area)
