Transfer from UW Seattle to Southern PE (Incoming Freshman)

Hello and thanks for coming to my thread. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer for me involving a theoretical transfer from UW to OU.

Anyway, long story short, I grew up in Oklahoma finished my last two years of high school in Tacoma, Wa, and have recently really started missing the South. I've always known that I did not want to live in Washington when I grew up; however, it never dawned on me that I would not want to leave after "cementing my roots" for four years at UW (making friends, connections, ect.). The South is where I want to live and I stupidly made my college decision without thinking about this.

On top of that before applying for college I was pretty set on majoring in aerospace engineering, but, after some research, I'm also considering petroleum engineering. Since UW does not have PE, I started to look into some school with PE & Aero, and schools with just PE.

As far as I understand PE undergrads, UT - Austin, TAMU are the best, and OU and TU also have great (top 5?) programs.

The issues for me transferring revolve around cost, credits (UW is a quarter based system whereas the others are semester), and of course the actual process of being admitted.

I've done some research, but I've often found that somehow people on this site seem to know better than the university's websites themselves, so I figured it'd be a good idea to go ahead and ask.

For reference, Fall Quarter at the UW I'm taking Chem 142 (Chem 1), Math 125 (Math 124 is the first calc class that goes over derivitives, 125 is the intergral based class. Eng 121 (English 1), a FIG class (2 credits, intro to university), and an engineering lecture class (1 credit, comes in the Freshman Interest Group).

On to my questions.

1) How difficult is it to transfer into UT?

2) I read that I have to complete 30 semester credit hours (or 45 quarter credits, I think), which would basically mean I could not transfer until after my freshman year. What would be the chances of some of those credits not transferring? Would some of the UT students already be taking more specialized classes? I don't think I'd take anything beyond Calc 125, 126 Chem 142, 152, 162, and the intro physics series.

3) Texas costs about $40,000 for OOS. I have an EFC of like $16.5k; however, UW doesn't give out any grants so I'm basically still paying the whole $26.4k/yr. Does Texas have OOS grants for my EFC range that would get me down to around $30,000 a year?

Texas in-state is only about 20-22k/yr (with fraternity dues instead of on-campus living). So theoretically it would only be about 10k more to transfer to UT. I could probably swing this with my parents considering that a UT PE grad makes more than a AA grad at UW.

4) Also, if any of you happen to know, if I attent UT 9 months out of the year, and intern in Texas during the summer, will I be able to establish residency in TX?

5) I have heard the University of Oklahoma also has a great PE programs. Since I can transfer there after 1 quarter, I would not be very far behind at all. What are the complications of transferring quarter credits to semester credits? And is there any knowledge from chem, calc, or eng 1 that I would be missing?

6) What is the order or prestige? UT PE, TAMU PE, OU PE, UW AA.

7) If anyone here thinks that TAMU may be more attractive to me than UT please tell me and state your reason! It will be very appreciated!

8) Also, if anyone knows about the Greek Life at any of those schools (I doubt one of us would have made it to the bottom of this huge post, but worth a shot) please tell me!

Thank you very very much for taking the time to read this and add your two cents! It's all welcome and appreciated.

Any answers to any of the questions help!

Anyone? Thanks!

All help is appreciated!
