HI, I want to transfer from UW Tacoma to the Seattle campus but was told by an admission counselor that I would have a very low chance of getting accepted because UW Seattle gives priority to students transferring from a community college. Is this true? I was devastated when I heard this because I want to go into Pre Med and UW Tacoma does not have the classes that I need.

Yes it’s true, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. If you express your reasons for transferring in your essay, they will look at that differently than a student who just wants to transfer to be at the “better” campus but can’t say why. Get your pre-req’s out of the way because those are the classes that are over enrolled here.

Hey I’m a little late but I hope you read this. I transferred from UW-T to UW-S after my first year but I feel that it was a mistake because the upper level science classes are much tougher at UW-S and has lowered my GPA significantly and made my chances for admission to my major lower. My most important advice to you is take ALL the available science classes and math classes at UW-T (Physics, Biology, Chem, Calc) because taking the upper level classes at UW-S is a pain. I left UW-T with a 3.9 GPA but only completing the Gen. Chem series, Physics1, Calc1, and Biol1 but after completing those series at UW-S my GPA dropped considerably and I changed my major to engineering. Registering for classes at UW-S is also a PAIN because none of the classes you take at UW-T show up as pre-reqs at UW-S so you would have to talk to an adviser every time you need to register for a class that has pre-reqs, its a very stressful process because most of those science and math classes get filled up very fast.

FINISH ALL YOUR SCIENCE AND MATH CLASSES AT UW-T.
FINISH ALL YOUR SCIENCE AND MATH CLASSES AT UW-T.

Good luck! :)

I was told the exact same thing from the counselor at UW-T about transferring but I did it anyway and was accepted. My friend with a low ~3 gpa was accepted also. I also transferred Winter 2010 if that makes any difference. You should also try doing the dual campus thing where you can take a class at UW-S each quarter. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you, I appreciate your help! I heard the same thing about the science classes so I don’t even know if it’s worth going to UW-Seattle for pre med if I’ll end up getting a low GPA. I would much rather attend UW-T than UW-S but I hate that they don’t have a pre med program. By the way, isn’t dual enrollment only for Tacoma Community College students?

Hello. When you said you transferred Winter 2010 with a low ~3. Were a freshman when you transferred? Sorry this is kind of late
