Dear CC. I am in an unique situation.I have been put on academic suspension my 6th semester from first college Thus,I attended another four year university. In the second institution, I changed my major from engineering to business. I am looking to transfer for fall semester. I am anticipated to graduate in Fall 2016. I was suppose to graduate in Spring 2015.(This semester)
Facts:
My GPA from 1st institution is around 2.3. My current GPA in 2nd institution is 3.86 with Spring semester aiming for a 4.0
Do you think I have any chances of getting accepted to colleges? I am looking into well known schools for business(Unc-chapel hill, georgetown, cornell, babson, nyu, american, babson).
2, Is it worth it to transfer back to the university I received academic suspension, giving the fact I would major in something else?
Or should I just attend the second university and just get a degree from here. My biggest worry is that this university isn't well known outside of where I live, thus job search will be hard
If I attend another university, will I able to get financial aid for more than 5 years?
Where is a realistic colleges I would be accepted to with my situation?
Let me clarify some things first… Did you formally withdraw from the first university or are you attending the second school as a transient student? Your context makes it sound like you are enrolled at both simultaneously…
Anyways, if you transfer to another school, you must send ALL of your old transcripts, so this includes both of the schools you have attended. Unfortunately, the low GPA and academic probation on the first transcript is not a good sign for a school.
From what I'm gathering, you are transferring as a senior? All of those schools you are looking at only accept sophomore or junior transfers, not seniors. The above schools would also require your high school transcript(s) and SAT/ACT score as well, though these would not be weighted very heavily.
If the university allows you to go back, then it's really up to you. Are you able to afford that university compared to another one? Did you like that university more? Personal factors will decide whether you go back.
Since I am understanding that you are a junior who would transfer as a senior, it is in your best interest to stay put. Having to transfer credits to an entirely new institution is arduous and may even hold back your graduation more.
I can tell you right now that transfer students get almost ZERO financial aid. Unless your state has a statewide scholarship (e.g. the HOPE scholarship), then you would not get much if any financial aid.
I got academic suspension from first institution. I am attending the second school. This is my second semester at the second institution. I am looking to go as a transfer senior.
The first institution will give me more financial aid and I do love that instituion more.
None of the schools you are looking at accept senior transfers, sorry.
Do you still have your aid at the first school? Many times, poor academic performance can disqualify students for continuing aid. However, if you still get aid from the first school AND you like it more, then I don’t see why you shouldn’t go back.
do you think its worth to transfer and apply as a transfer junior and delay my graduate from well renowned university for another 2 years. or just graduate from not so famous university and finish degree in 1 year
Delaying graduation only costs you more money in the long run since you have to pay for more semesters of schooling. Right now, I would compare the cost of staying vs the cost of transferring.
You need to find out from University 1 whether you are now readmissible, how many of the credits from this year will transfer and as what, and whether you would be able to graduate with your new major from University 1 in May 2016. If you can’t graduate then, how soon would you be able to?
You need to find out from University 2 whether or not you can graduate with the new major in May 2016. If you can’t graduate then, how soon would you be able to?
You also need to run budgets for both places, and see which is likely to be the most affordable.
Then choose between those two.
Most colleges and universities expect students to be enrolled there for at least two full years. Even if you could be accepted as a transfer at University 3, you would probably not be able to finish until May 2017. Some public universities do accept true senior transfers who only have one year of coursework to finish up. However most of those programs really are designed for working adults, and might not be good options for you. Two that have good reputations are http://www.umuc.edu/ and http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/ There may be a similar program available in your state.
From University 1 and 2 I will be able to graduate at May 2016.
Cost going to university 2 will be cheaper since I commute from home.
From University 3 I would graduate just 2 years later than my original graduation.
Do you think its better to graduate at university 3(well renowned business school) in hopes of getting a better job?
Or should i just graduate from university 2(not well known liberal arts college) with a high gpa in may 2016 and search for a job. I am just afraid that if i graduate from university 2, I will not get a job because the university name is not well known and there isn’t a lot of job or internships offers at our university’s job website
Stay where you are and get on with your career. After your first job, where you went to college won’t matter. If you really want to go back to the first university and they take you, and the date of graduation is the same , then consider it. However, you KNOW you can do well where you are and your track record at the first university is not so great.
A final thing to consider. When you graduate from where you are now, your GPA will be high. If you transfer back to the other school, it does not matter if you get wonderful grades in your final year, the GPA will average the bad and the good together. What GPA would you rather put on your resume?
The only thing is that in reality the university 1 gives a lot of financial aid to compared to university 2. but I guess the more important thing is the gpa
