I go to BU. Kids party Wed-Sun. No one does much else but smoke and drink. I dont mind it, but not every damn day.

School is insanely hard. Not a degree factory. I need an easier school.

I want a more chill school where people do other stuff like go to the movies, go out for dinner, etc., etc.

Dream Schools:

Michigan and the University of Florida. I know theyre both extremely unlikely. I'll be a FL resident soon though. I do know they both (esp. UF) contradict the party scene statement, but I'd sacrifice to go to either.

Want:

Easier school
More 'chill' social life
Not west of Colorado
Decent/good sports

Schools I'm interested in:

UF
Michigan
Maryland
Villanova
Indiana University
UNC Asheville
University of Denver
Colorado College
Temple University (connections, auto in)
Emory (yeah...)

I did pretty mediocre in hs and I dont think I'm doing better in college. I have at best a 3.2 gpa. I'm in a pretty crappy situation because what I want either doesnt exist or I cant get in (Duke, Stanford, Northwestern,).

He probably means you can't just give it half effort and still get a degree.

I think you should apply to Northwestern actually. They have an above average transfer acceptance rate. Forget Duke and Stanford.

I used to be a North Carolina resident, and it's pretty much well known that Asheville is the liberal area. Vegetarianism, organics, PETA, the city is into all of that. That may be good or bad, depends on what you identify with. UNC Asheville is also a public liberal arts college, and it's primarily off-campus students, so social life might not be the greatest there.

I know forget about Duke and Stanford, believe me. I know from others somewhat about Asheville. We might buy a house there, so I dont think it's bad to consider. I thought it's a pretty chill school though? No?

Degree factory means you cant half ass and do well. You need to work hard to get good grades. You're not granted a degree for getting in essentially.

You want an easier school? Cross off Michigan from that list if you think BU is hard. I don't know what you were thinking, unless you're actually talking about Michigan State.

A lot of people seem to think difficulty and ranking have a direct correlation. WRONG. From what I hear BU has a wicked grading curve which screws people over big time.

I checked out the predicted vs. actual graduation rates in USNWR for BU and you might have a point. The predicted rate is 83%, the actual rate is 81%. Many schools have actual rates above predicted rates (I am guessing half, but I am not sure how they calculate these) so BU would appear to be a bit harder than one might expect. This is a really hard thing to get your arms around from the outside. Many of the schools that have actual graduation rates less than predicted are focused on engineering; I am assuming that this is not the case at BU.

Rutgers and Pitt are difficult schools too, I don't kno where you pulled pitt from but that is probably not where you want to go. the city is pretty drab and the school is pretty hard from what ive heard. if you have an auto in to temple, use it, its a nice acadamic school, not sure about the social scene
