Transfer housing

What about transferring in as a junior for winter semester? What can be done about housing then? My friend doesnt really know anyone at UM and would obviously like to meet more people, so probably off-campus wouldn't be the best idea. What could she get on-campus?

Try for Cambridge House or Oxford. Cambridge houses hundreds of transfers every year and the rooms are amazing. It's in between west quad (connected to both) and the union so it has arguably the best location on campus as well. Oxford isnt bad but its a 15 min. walk from central

But would it be possible to get into cambridge half way through the year?

It probably is. Also, Cambridge is a lot more expensive than Oxford and I don't think its worth the difference in cost.

you got to love the ad hominem and personal attacks : D

Nah I just love it when people make an idiot out of themselves. :)

UMrunner08, stop harrassing mightynick. you don't really know what you're talking about.

when you apply for transfer housing, cambridge is only an option if you are an upper-class transfer. also, for niihla, it's difficult to get cambridge in the winter. during the fall semester, many students apply for room changes and there are wait lists for many of the dorms.

cambridge does in fact have very nice rooms, but it is probably the most expensive on-campus housing option. i think it goes up to the low to mid 9000's if i remember correctly, opposed to a double in west quad which is only 7300 or so.

Haha, ya I have no idea what I'm talking about having gone through the process before and lived in cambridge. And Oxford rooms are fine... the whole complex is actually pretty nice but its a little walk to central. It's a lot better than "hell" as previously described.

I also knew several people who lived in cambridge as second year transfers. Unless this policy has changed in the last two years, anyone can apply for Cambridge. You can also get a re-assignment after the year has started if you really are miserable in Oxford because lots of people did that who were previously in Bates. And it is a bit more expensive. I think it was exactly $9,000 but its worth the difference in costs.... If you are really trying to save money it would be smarter to live off campus.

Basically Nick, I just think your complaining about your situation is really silly because theres a lot of other options for you out there. And it's a shame that you are possibly turning other transfers off of Michigan based on housing conditions.

and aspirant: harrassing? re-read the thread, sir. I'm the anti-social, know-it-all, snob. LOL if only he knew me

I'm done with this thread... Good luck Nick

UMRunner, i also went through the transfer process. the application explicitly states that cambridge is reserved for upper-class transfers. my friend who was a sophomore last year got his room by calling the housing office and asking for it. i did the same and they turned me down.

whatever. it's still over-priced and i can't agree with you more when you say you're a snob.
