Transfer MCB major

Hello, I currently attend Loyola University Chicago and I just sent in my Application with a to the LAS school of UIUC.
My Stats
HS GPA: 3.0
ACT: 27
College GPA: 3.1
Required GPA for school of MCB: 2.7
Im transferring in with 32 Credit Hours

Can you guys let me know how well I stand in being accepted?
Thank You

I mean I sent in my Application with 17 credits but I am also taking credits this semester and taking summer courses as well.

I think you should be fine because i don’t think it is very competitive to transfer in LAS like college of business or engineering. Writing a good essay and maybe some extra-curricular activities should be enough.

The MCB program attracts many top students who enroll in it to fulfill many of the prerequisite courses required by applicants to medical school. Since it has so many top students applying, I wouldn’t count on an ACT of 27 assuring your acceptance. Nor would I assume that a 3.1 GPA, regardless of it being over the minimum accepted, is high enough to assure admittance. Don’t get me wrong, I hope you get admitted, but all programs within LAS are not equal, and this is one of the more selective within the college. You’ve got a shot, but it depends on the number of spaces available and who else is applying.

thank you for your response.
If I get denied acceptance, can I appeal it and send in my second semester grades and still be accepted into the fall program?

Thank You

You, of course can appeal the denial. They allow you to submit an essay detailing “new and compelling information that is relevant to the admissions criteria” that was not on the original application. Ask Admissions directly, or if Druba sees this he may respond. I’m not sure if along with that essay, they may allow you to submit your 2nd semester grades.

Thank You for all your help.
My friend applied the same time I did 2 weeks ago and has already been accepted. His High School grades were around the same as mine but his GPA in college was a 3.7. He applied as a poly-sci major. Would that make a difference seeing as both a Biology major and a Poly Sci major are in the same school which is LAS.

Thank You

It’s my understanding that MCB is one of the more competitive programs to get into. At the grad level, it’s in the top 10 in the country (7). Political science, while not too shabby is ranked 21st. Being housed in the same college is not really that relavent. But hang in there, and good luck.

Thank You for all your help. Hopefully I made the cut.

As long as you sent your application before the priority application deadline, i think you stand a pretty good chance with your stats.

Many of my friends have already been accepted but they applied as different majors like Math Major and Poly-Sci. Does it take longer to review some majors rather than others?

Probably. Did you put any EC’s on your application?

Yes, I put all the extracurriculars I am currently involved in. Also on the U of I transfer requirements, it states since I am a MCB major, chemistry is not a requirement but is highly recommended when transferring into your sophomore year. I have not taken chemistry yet but will take it in the summer before I enter my fall semester at U of I. I explained this in an additional essay when sending in my app. Do you think the admissions office will take that into consideration?

its a good thing you put that in the additional essay. I will just call to find out if it will be taken into consideration.

I was wondering what the average time it takes for a transfer student to find out about their decision? I applied early and its been about 2 1/2 weeks. since my application was complete.
