I'm heading out to Tallahassee. I have orientation tomorrow and wondering what I should expect as I'm going to it on my own without a parent. It's only a one day orientation so I'm expecting it to be focused on picking classes and a campus tour?

Pretty much. At freshman orientation they pretty much drew it out into 2 days of getting used to what college would be like and then a day of basically meeting your advisor, picking classes, and that was it. Since you’re already used to college, I’m sure they pretty much just take off the first two days, since it would be pointless.

As a transfer student, when I went to orientation it was pretty much about what resources are available for you on campus and try to convince you to use them and utilize all of the resources to help you succeed.

My parents came with me, though, I thought it was a waste of $70.00 for the to come. Each person you bring is $35.00. It’s just a bunch of mini seminars you’ll be going through the day. They take attendance before and after lunch breaks and there are several mini seminars, but there are some that you’re required to attend. So stay for the whole thing, you might actually find it very useful!

Take a tour of the campus if you can go with that seminar, I wasn’t able to go on the tour, I went to a different seminar and missed the tour. But the tour really isn’t that necessary, once you get here you’ll be able to get lost and find new buildings and stuff lol like I did.

Enjoy your orientation! Visit the Union cafe and eat at the chilies : ) pretty good. Or go to the Miso restaurant they got sushi : ) yummie too!

The orientation ended quite early. It was pretty interesting. They had a few seminars then two networking seminars that flew by and were kind of useless to a lot of students. We got out early and met w our advisors. My History advisor was great & super helpful. All the Orientation Leaders were fantastic and helpful.
I recommend not having parents join you. They all looked soooo bored, lol. It’s better to just meet up w them
during lunch.
