Transfer out of Georgia Tech CS to UCF CS?

I'm currently a Georgia Tech CS first year undergrad. Paralleling whats said all over the internet, I've come to find that Georgia Tech is extremely academically frustrating. I've studied for hours on end for both Calculus II and gen Chemistry, attended tutoring sessions, group study sessions, TA review sessions etc and still get F's on my tests. My gpa is going to be either a 1.79 or a 2.0 depending on my english grade, I'm already failing calc bad enough that I'm going to have to repeat it next semester. I'm even getting F's in the required health course. My experience so far at GT definitely has not been a happy one.

My question is, would it be a wise decision to transfer to UCF for computer science? (I'm from central florida) Is there a major difference in the level of CS education between the two colleges? I have no doubt that I would be a happier person at UCF, I just don't want to sacrifice my academics.

I really want to be able to program well in a few languages to make my own iPhone apps, android apps, maybe PC games/apps. Eventually, I plan to have my own business/be self employed if that makes any difference.

Any advice or thoughts is much appreciated

Although I do not go to UCF, their CS department is very good. Although GT may have more opportunity, at UCF you’d probably have more time to do your own thing.

If you are failing your courses at GT do you think you’ll do better at UCF? I would recommend you figure out why you’re not able to do well at GT before just picking a place to transfer.

Agree with Erin’s dad. Georgia Tech being competitive and challenging may be a reason for a lower GPA. But, it is not a reason for failing classes, especially if you’re putting in the effort you say you are. You need to determine whether you have the aptitude. for such a math heavy subject.

Major reason I did not do well first semester at GT is because my calc professor was extremely tough, his class took away time that could have been otherwise spent studying other subjects. His average GPA of his grades given over the past 5 years ranges from a 1.86-2.22. I had no CS courses last semester, I’m acing my CS exams so far this semester but still don’t enjoy the atmosphere here at Tech.
