Transfer Prospects After Withdrawl?

I am currently a freshmen attending a somewhat competitive college out-of-state. Overall, I have not been enjoying my experience there, and it seems likely that I will withdraw out of school to take local/online courses at a nearby college because of this (and due to some personal issues).

However, I eventually plan on transferring to another competitive school once I can get everything in check (likely for Fall 2019), but I am worried that my decision to withdraw will be problematic or frowned upon when looking at prospective schools. To anyone familiar with the transfer admissions process, is my superstition true? If I make productive use of my semester off, will this be enough to remain viable as an applicant? Thank you in advance!

Are you planning to complete this semester, or are you withdrawing from all of your classes and leaving now?

If you aren’t failing your classes or suffering a medical or mental health issue that requires you to leave, your best option is to finish up the current semester where you are. Then you can take a leave of absence, or just transfer out.

What you do after that is up to you. You don’t have to take any classes at all. Make it a real “gap semester” and just get a job or an internship, or do some volunteer work while you get your life in order.
