Transfer in one year but only a 3.4 max gpa

So, I didn't get into UCI as a freshman so I'm going to CC where with all the AP credit (i met with a counselor so this is true) I'm only going to have to take 9 classes total to transfer. but I previously took JA 1 and 2 during my senior year and i got a C in JA1 an F in JA2 (i had no time with 4 aps and sports and my ja 1 experience was not my best) so at max if i somehow get all A's ill only end up with a 3.4 (also since i apply in the fall does that mean im screwed because ill only have two classes done and 3 in progress so my gpa will be even lower at the time) the problem is because im taking to few classes because i have credit for all of that already so this hurts me more than other people. what should i do?

Did you make up your failed grade? You must do that in order to get into any UC. See if you can get an Academic Renewal (wiping your grade off your transcript with an “AR” instead of an “F”). If you cannot, retake the class and then apply. Your new grade will replace the “F” and UCs, will only use the new grade for GPA calculation.

even with that my I wouldnt be able to do it until the fall semester where i would have applied in november correct? I already have two classes this summer to take

Yup, unless you took the class in the summer, UCs would only see that “F”. They don’t like that, and given how little of an academic record you have, they would be reluctant to accept you. Academic Renewal (if your CC will let you do it), would solve the problem, but otherwise they will see it. You could still apply just to see if they might accept you anyway, but it would cost you some money of course. I too was rejected as a freshman to UCI after taking many AP/hinors classes. I know you want to get out in 1 year. But staying for 2 isn’t bad at all. You’ll learn to like your CC and will learn a lot too. just something to think about.

What’s your major?

also it says academic renewal must be from something three years ago

My major is Criminology so its more that I have no reason to stay long than a year I’m not even packing my schedule, i have two this summer like 9 units fall and 15 spring

Ya, that’s what I thought. So unless you take the class in Summer or Fall, it will show up as an “F”. If you retake the class in Fall, they will see the new grade and will only use it to calculate your GPA. But if you take it later then that, they won’t see it. So try to take it Fall if you can.

I suppose I have to which isn’t a huge problem i hope it depends how my aps go this year (had 4 physics micro econ spanish and gov) so i should be fine if i pass physics econ and gov idk about physics that was crazy hard. also im planning to minor in three languages (not at once. over time) one of which is japanese im just worried i wont do well. hopefully they look at academic renewals as a case by case kind of thing but i hope i didn’t screw myself

also whats a good gpa for transferring to uci?

You can get guaranteed admission with a 3.2 through TAG. But there are many other requirements for it as well.

But if you take the class in the Fall won’t the new grade replace the F after you do the TAU? If I’m not mistaken they base the decisions off of the inclusion of Fall grades reflected by the TAU.

That’s why people have said to try and take the class no later than the fall.

the problem with htag is that i need 30 units this summer but they dont count units from ap classes

Ya exactly. What is your major?

It’s Criminology Law and society

Ah. Is that why you chose UCI as your #1 choice?

I am told they are really good for that major, plus i like irvine and its not that far. I need to stick to instate public schools because i have tuition paid for by the GI bill

ya they are really good for that major. but make sure you like the school as well. I love UCI, but everyone has their own feelings and sometimes people will go to a school and realize they don’t like it. So make sure you like UCI as a school before you commit to going there.

Yea i do really like the school, I have a cousin who might be going back to uci to do a second major in comp sci which i might be double majoring in so that would be a plus

it really sucks not getting any scholarships or anything lol the only thing aps did for me is a year of class
