Transfer Questions

During highschool, I had a really rough time. And I believe due to these certain circumstances i wasn't able to bring out my full potential during my secondary school years. I did okay in school and took rigorous courses; I maintained my grades in the A or B average. But I didn't do so well on my ACT's or SAT's . I am currently going to being a undergraduate at a four year private school on the east coast for the class of '14. But I really want to transfer into Brown.( That is my number one choice. ) What is some advice you could give me if I am planning to transfer?

Oh! and I have a few questions
1. Should I try transfering my freshman year or sop. year?
2. I didn't do very well on my standardized tests. Should I retake them?
3. How is transfering different for the spring and fall semester?

Any other advice would be great!! Thanks =]

If your HS stats are not up to Brown’s standards to gain admissions for Freshmen year then you should probably apply during sophomore year. Then you have enough college experience under your belt to show that you are capable of such work.

Your choice. If you really feel that you should retake the SAT/ACT go for it. Just make sure that you don’t forget about your college work. It’s better for you to have a higher GPA then higher SAT/ACT… Unless of course you do well on both.

Not sure what you mean by ‘the difference’, but Spring transfer applications are just due earlier and you get to transfer in the spring. I don’t think that Brown accepts Spring transfers so you should check that.

Do you mean freshmen year of college??

Yeah. If you couldn’t really get into Brown as a freshman (i.e. senior in HS applying for freshman admission), then only one semester of college behind you wouldn’t make as much of a difference as three semesters of college (when you apply as a sophomore for junior standing).
I hope this cleared things up a bit.

Be aware that policies for transfer admissions at B differ from fr admissions in that admissions decisions are made on a need-aware basis and they have limited FA for transfers.

Thanks for adding entomom.
