I was accepted as a transfer student and I am really worried about Cornell revoking my acceptance.

My final grades for the second semester of Spring 09 are: A, A-, B+, B, C

The CALS admissions representative on the phone told me that ANYTHING LOWER THAN A GRADE OF B will rescind an acceptance!!!! Would the C rescind my transfer acceptance?

Well, strictly speaking, according to what you just said, a C grade can rescind acceptance. That said, I can’t imagine it actually would. I was under the impression that all classes with a grade of C- or better will transfer. I can understand if you failed a couple of classes and looked like a total slack off, but one C?

it might be different for transfers because we are already in college and our poor slacking grades count
For high school seniors, cornell would say threaten rescission just to “make sure they don’t slack offf”, but maybe not for transfers because our grades count
Are they being serious for transfers?

my thoughts were the same. So does that mean we will likely get rescind if we get a C in one of our classes? I have an explanation of why I got a C in my class.

I’m kind of in the same situation… I think that C’s are okay as long as you maintain a 3.0 average, and as long as its not in one of the required courses for your major. As in their agreement they said the only classes required to be a B or better would be those required courses… which is where I might be screwed! I just found out today that I ended up with a C+ in chem 2. I’m going to give them a call about it… Hopefully they won’t care since I got A’s in all my other required classes, and all my other grades were relatively good (just one B first semester in chem 1 and one more B in a one credit horse management class this semester). But argh, I’m still freaking out…

hey zeaot and cindywc - what did cornell tell you regarding rescission?? Did they tell you that anything lower than a B will rescind your acceptance??

I don’t really understand why people slack off before they transfer. If you’re applying to graduate school, they will look at all your grades, not just the ones from Cornell.

That only holds true for SOME graduate programs right? I know that Medical schools often look at all final transcripts, but not so sure about other grad programs (law school, for example).

i didn’t get in, but my BF is/was a GT and his letter said that they would not let him transfer in if he got below a B in any class, and that they would strictly enforce that rule. the letter also said that he couldn’t have below a 3.3. i know someone who got a C from another state school in the SUNY system who was a GT and now cannot attend. your best bet is to call, and if they say they will rescind for that, ask if you can retake it over the summer and boost that grade.

does that rule (of lower than a B results in rescission) apply to non-GT?? I am a regular external transfer (non-GT) and my letter of acceptance did not state any of those rules; all it said was “satisfactorily completion” of work in progress. Do the rules of GT apply to non-GT?

I’ll update you guys tomorrow. My grade actually ended up getting changed, so I’m in the clear, but I’ll give them a call when the offices open tomorrow and find out for you all anyway. Zealot, I suggest you should call as well just to double check for yourself. Good luck!

^–I’m the same situation as jrcornell, non-GT but I’m a regular CALS transfer. According to the transfer credit evaluation they sent, everything about a C- transfers and nothing else on that matter was put on the sheet.

I’ve definitely received an A and an A- in two courses, then B+s in two others, but I think one of my pre-requisite courses is ending up as a C+…will this really be that much of a problem? I understand grad schools look at all of your schooling and what not.
