Transfer Student - Dire Situation Part 2

Last semester I did really poorly, although I managed to pull out a few classes before I did too much damage, I ended up Ds and Fs. Now I am doing well again and have straight As pretty much. I also plan on taking the maximum amount of credits over the summer and (hopefully) getting As in those classes as well.

If everything, including next fall semester, goes well, do you guys think I would have a chance at transferring to a state ivy like William and Mary (my target school) or do you think they would be too resistant given my past? I’m currently at VCU and am majoring in Political Science.

You would need to be able to

  1. recover fully from the bad semester,
  2. explain why that bad semester happened in the first place, and
  3. define very specifically why Wm & Mary offers a program for your major that is better for your academic and career goals than what you can get at VCU.

Thanks Happymom. I’m definitely on track with the 1st point on your list, I hope I can explain well enough the difficulties I faced so that they understand I wasn’t just slacking off.

Thanks Happymom. Do you think a college like William and Mary would be willing to look past it though?

None of us here know enough to give you the clear yes/no answer that you want. The transfer admissions office at W&M might be able to talk some of this theough with you, so if you have a chance to visit, do that.
