Transfer student looking for schools for Communication

I'm a Freshman at a school where I'm a Communication major. I'm planning on transferring to another school for Fall 2011. My program at my current school is very limited and very small (there are only two other people in my major).

I'm looking to apply to the Media, Culture, and Communication major at NYU Steinhardt and Fordham's Communication and Media Studies program. I'm also look at BU's school of Communication.

I know of a lot of schools for Communication like USC, UPenn, and Northwestern, but since Steinhardt is my top choice, I'm trying to find some easier schools to get into, so I know I'll have somewhere to go. I'm also trying to stay on the East Coast and near a city (mainly NYC and Boston).

Syracuse
UMass

Thank SMCguy. I’ve thought of those, but they’re pretty far away from anything interesting (part of the reason I’m leaving my current school is because I can’t stand too be stuck in upstate New York, and Syracuse is further Upstate and UMass is in basically in Massachusetts farmland). Also, I think Newhouse may be more selective that the schools I’m looking at (at least BU and Fordham).

Mizzou? = University of Missouri.
They have a great journalism program. I’m not sure about communication though.

Could you afford NYU or BU? Not exactly generous schools! LOL…
Cost is everything these days!

^^^

Very true…NYU is awful with aid, and transfer students often have trouble getting aid at most places.

Will your parents pay for any school that you attend?

If cost is an issue…Are you instate for NY? If so, are there any SUNYs?

I’m aware that those schools are expensive (I believe the school I’m at now is actually more expensive than BU and close to NYU’s costs). I’m not saying that money is not an issue because I am currently receiving some aid from my current school, but my parents have said that they would try to make it work wherever I attend and they haven’t discouraged me from applying to any schools or suggested more affordable options.

I have explained to them that NYU is not very good when it comes to aid, and then transfers generally don’t get as much aid as freshman admits. I also plan on helping in any way that I can (work study, ect.)

I’m from Massachusetts, so I don’t get a break on SUNY and CUNY fees, but they are still more affordable than private schools and I would consider applying if something made sense. As mentioned above, UMass Amherst has a pretty good Comm program, but I would really like to be near a city because I hate where I am right now (a dead and decaying urban area in Upstate NY) and because opportunities for internships and jobs are much better, especially with schools like NYU.
