Hey forum,
Throughout my years at community college, life took a turn and threw me down the hill (useless relationships with past ex-boyfriends). Basically, I got lazy (I admit) and trekked through. Now at the age of 23, I straightened up (meaning no more relationships and no more being lazy) and decided to put all my focus on transferring out of a community college and away from ruining my life. I will be at 60 units at the end of Fall 2013 with mostly A's and B's, with 4 C's, (up to date). I calculated my GPA with my Spring 2013 semester, and it's at a 3.0.

Will UC/CSU's accept more than 60 units? Would I be able to transfer in as a junior with 90 units to a UC/CSU? What about USC? I really want to bump my GPA up to at least a 3.5. What should I do? Do I stay longer at a CC and take up to 90 units? Please help :(

Yes they will! I got accepted to CSUN with 74 units. To be honest I think a 3.0 is pretty good for almost any CSU. Now a UC… I think you can get into UCR with a 3.0 since they’re required GPA for consideration is a 2.4… I don’t think it’s possible to get a 3.5 in 1 year, but with your GPA you should have no problem getting into a CSU unless your trying to get into SDSU or CSULB (if you’re not in the local area). Hope this helps!

Note: I have heard of people getting into a USC with a 3.3, but I don’t know how they did it. Do you have any ECs? Good recs from professors? And make sure you write an excellent essay for USC!

@smurray09, Hi thanks for your reply! I’m hoping to get into USC but I don’t know because my GPA is a 3.0. I was worried about the whole units deal but I got clarification from you and a friend of mine, and it doesn’t matter (at least I hope so! anyone else want to add in?
)

Anyway, I don’t have any ECs at the moment because I’ve been working a full time job for the past 2 years to support my family and myself. On top of this, I haven’t been able to get any rec letters from professors because I’ve been taking all online classes since I started CC. Gah… just my luck… :(

Oh yea! Also for UCs they all have their own pre-reqs to do before you can get into the major I think. Check out their websites for your major to see what classes you need in order to be considered for the major. For a CSUs; ECs, Rec, Essays aren’t considered so you don’t have to worry about that.

Also here’s a thread of USC transfer 2013 decisions with their stats, ec, recs, and what they talked about in their essay… it may help you with your decision to transfer there or not: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1504695-usc-transfer-decisions-2013-a.html

USC isn’t part of the UC system

Hthrluv, I completed my undergrad via distance learning. The professors mentoring the classes knew my work and were willing to write letters of recommendation for me. Send a resume along with your request and I bet you will get a great letter.

@Transfer2OI3 I’m aware. :)
