Transfer Student?

I am currently a freshman at Colgate, and am unhappy with the college. I love my professors and classes, and while I understand that this is the main point of college, to get an outstanding education, I am not happy with the social atmosphere of the school. I feel like I do not fit in, as I am not a huge partier, and many students at the school seem pretentious and snobby. I have joined a variety of clubs, but still haven't found a group of people that I feel comfortable with. In addition, while I feel like my professors are extremely welcoming, the other resources at the university have not been. In addition, I love to volunteer, but the programs offered are not serious in their time commitments (most only meet once a month).

I am really unhappy at the school, and am thinking of transferring. I have probably all B's this semester. Is that too low to transfer schools? I know I can handle the academics, and think I would do better if I were happier. The schools I am thinking of are Hamilton College and Franklin&Marshall.

Any advice for me? I'm going to stick it out the entire year, but I am pretty sure that I am ready to transfer. Do I have a chance at getting into either of those schools?

Thanks!

A 3.0 is generally a little low for transfer applicants, but don’t take my word for that one…work hard next semester, have stellar mid-semester grades. If you’re at Colgate, I would guess that you have a pretty solid high school record, which, as a sophomore transfer, would be considered.

From what I understand (and as a student trying to transfer from a small LAC in the Northeast), I think the social atmosphere at Colgate, Hamilton, and F&M is likely to be much the same…I know it’s the case at my LAC and from what I’ve heard at F&M as well. But that’s just my two cents…

Best of luck!
